The restaurant is dedicated to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, professionalism, and operational efficiency across all shifts. The team at Black Bear Diner Hayward takes pride in creating a comfortable dining experience for individuals, families, and groups alike, ensuring that every customer feels valued and respected from the moment they step inside to the time they leave.
The Host position at Black Bear Diner Hayward plays a crucial role in shaping the guest’s first and lasting impressions. This is a full-time role that requires a dedicated individual who embodies professionalism, warmth, and a family-friendly demeanor. The Host is responsible for greeting guests promptly and courteously before, during, and after their meal periods. This role demands attentiveness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant setting. Uniform compliance is essential, including wearing black slacks, the Black Bear Diner shirt with suspenders, slip-proof black shoes, and a name badge. Key responsibilities of the Host include managing the waitlist through a Guest Waiting Pad and electronic paging system, greeting guests upon entry with friendly conversation, monitoring the cleanliness of the restaurant and restrooms, ensuring that the Pie Case is stocked and labeled with fresh baked goods, and accurately handling cash and credit card transactions. The Host also oversees the sales balance at the end of the shift, assists in managing tips, and handles customer complaints professionally by listening and providing polite resolutions or escalating issues to supervisors when necessary. Additional tasks include answering phone calls professionally, facilitating to-go orders with accuracy, and maintaining the tidiness of the cash register area and dining room.
This role requires physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, sometimes up to four hours without sitting breaks. Candidates must be able to write clearly to record guest names, engage guests with a cheerful and courteous attitude, and multitask effectively especially while using communication devices.
