Job Description

Marriott International is a globally recognized leader in the hospitality industry, celebrated for its commitment to quality, innovation, and exceptional guest experiences. As one of the world’s largest hotel chains, Marriott International operates a vast portfolio of distinguished brands, including Courtyard by Marriott, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of business travelers. Courtyard hotels emphasize comfort, convenience, and efficient service to empower guests whether they are traveling for business or leisure. With its extensive global presence and dedication to diversity and inclusion, Marriott International is an employer that values the unique backgrounds, talents, and experiences of its associates, fostering an environment where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to thrive.

This particular position is located at the Courtyard property on Beach Blvd in Buena Park, California. It is a full-time management role within the Property Leadership category, offering an annual salary range of $102,000 to $131,000, complemented by bonus opportunities. The role is pivotal in overseeing all operational facets of the property and ensuring the achievement of business objectives that align with Marriott’s high standards and the owner’s expectations.

The General Manager acts as the strategic business leader for the property, with comprehensive responsibility encompassing property performance management, food and beverage operations oversight, sales and marketing strategy execution, profitability management, human resource functions, and revenue generation. This role requires a dynamic leader who can develop and implement property-wide strategies that enhance the guest experience and elevate service standards in line with Marriott’s brand initiatives.

Key to the role is the ability to foster relationships with key customers and stakeholders, actively participate in sales processes, collaborate with regional and market sales teams, and innovate ways to capture new revenue streams through hotel amenities. The General Manager must manage labor effectively to stay within budgetary goals, continuously monitor guest satisfaction data through GSS scores, and drive operational excellence through real-time feedback to associates.

In addition, the role involves project management for capital improvements like renovations and refreshes, ensuring that the property maintains impeccable cleanliness and maintenance standards, and executing important brand standards. The General Manager must also balance inventory to maximize revenue, sign off on financial invoices, consolidate reports, and maintain compliance with established procurement guidelines.

From a human resources perspective, the role demands leading associates through property changes, managing recruitment and performance review processes, conducting training and development for managers and associates, and monitoring local hiring trends. The General Manager provides coaching to foster professional growth, supports cross-training initiatives, and ensures associates have clear performance expectations.

Furthermore, the General Manager acts as a liaison between the property and ownership or above-property leadership, regularly updating stakeholders with financial, guest satisfaction, and associate engagement performance metrics. They prepare detailed reports and participate in owner conference calls, helping to maintain transparency and align property operations with broader organizational goals.

Joining Courtyard by Marriott means becoming part of a passionate, ambitious team dedicated to enriching the traveler experience. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage leadership skills in an exciting hospitality environment that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Marriott’s inclusive culture and commitment to providing equal employment opportunities make this a rewarding career choice for qualified management professionals seeking to advance within a respected global brand.
