The role of Fire & Life Safety Director (FSD) at Harvard Protection Services is a critical leadership position designed to uphold the company’s commitment to best-in-class security and life safety services. FSDs are responsible for managing safety protocols and security operations to protect people, property, and personnel under their supervision. This role demands professionalism, vigilance, and the ability to monitor facility environments for suspicious and unsafe activity. The FSD must maintain a visible presence, familiarize themselves with facility operations, and ensure authorized access while enforcing building policies within their scope of authority. They provide direct support during emergencies, including fire-fighting duties and assisting in fire drills, and may train others in emergency response procedures. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling, managing overtime, reviewing logs and incident reports, and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with fire protection standards. Effective communication, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer service environment are essential. Harvard Protection Services offers a competitive hourly wage of $27.95 with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, paid sick leave and vacation, as well as 401K enrollment options. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm, providing a stable schedule for work-life balance. This position is ideal for those with experience in security, fire services, law enforcement, or military backgrounds who possess a Fire Safety Director’s license and a commitment to excellence in safety and security.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED
  • must have Fire Safety Directors license
  • reliable means of communication and transportation
  • must have or be able to obtain a security guard license within an acceptable period
  • strong interpersonal communication skills
  • knowledge of or ability to learn fire inspection operations and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • must have or be able to obtain a security guard license within an acceptable period
  • previous contract security, law enforcement, fire department, or military experience preferred
  • strong interpersonal communication skills
  • good organizational skills
  • ability to write routine detailed correspondence including logs, incident reports
  • good time management and problem-solving skills
  • good computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • ability to work in a fast-paced customer service environment

Job Duties

  • Maintain a professional demeanor while leading staff and aiding customers, employees, visitors, and guests
  • maintain a visible presence in the facility/building assigned
  • monitor the environment with the ability to detect suspicious and unsafe activity
  • become familiar with incoming and outgoing traffic and know the customers, tenants, visitors, and guests
  • answer phones professionally and perform clear announcements
  • permit authorized persons to enter property and monitor entrances and exits
  • enforce facility/building policies and procedures within limits of the position
  • follow established emergency action planning, procedures, fire protection, and safety standards
  • monitor alarms and systems as required
  • perform operations related functions including scheduling, overtime management, review of daily logs and incident reports, training and development of staff
  • test and inspect fire extinguishers and other fire protection devices to ensure compliance
  • discuss violations and unsafe conditions with site representatives
  • prepare reports on inspections, violations, and recommendations for eliminating fire hazards
  • maintain records and logs as required by law
  • perform fire-fighting duties during emergencies
  • train others in fire emergency response plans
  • assist in fire drills
  • perform other inspections and safety duties as required
  • offer additional security services functions as permitted under required security officer license and specified by assigned site
