The Facilities Manager role at GDMS is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing a substantial portfolio exceeding 200,000 square feet, spread across multiple locations including Groton, CT; Fort Wayne, IN; Gloucester, MA; Florham Park, NJ; Pittsburgh, Canonsburg & Charleroi, PA. This role requires both high-level operational oversight and hands-on management of facilities teams and contractors, playing a critical part in maintaining mission readiness and infrastructure integrity within a defense industry context. The Facilities Manager is entrusted with leading initiatives that align with the company’s strategic goals, managing budgets, capital projects, risk management, and ensuring full compliance with regulations such as ADA, fire safety, and local building codes.

Key responsibilities involve managing and mentoring staff, coordinating third-party service providers, spearheading infrastructure projects, and maintaining core building systems like HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression. The individual also champions emergency preparedness and business continuity planning to guarantee site safety and resilience. This position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technologies in environments that are often classified and to collaborate with senior leadership on critical facility-related decisions. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is required
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Strong technical knowledge of facilities operations and building systems
  • Experience managing staff and contractors
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Solid understanding of ADA, local building codes, and fire and life safety regulations
  • Experience in Business Continuity Planning and emergency response
  • Ability to travel up to 20% across multiple sites

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Master’s degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations
  • Strong technical knowledge of facilities operations, building systems, equipment functions, and requirements including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, BMS, and IWMS platforms
  • Demonstrated experience managing both direct staff and contracted service providers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and energy management systems
  • Solid understanding of ADA requirements, local building codes, fire and life safety regulations
  • Experience with Business Continuity Planning, emergency response plan development, and crisis management
  • Ability to travel 10-20% across assigned sites

Job Duties

  • Provide departmental guidance by prioritizing facilities initiatives in alignment with leadership’s strategic direction
  • Review, develop, and initiate department policies and standard operating procedures
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient and effective facilities operations
  • Develop, prepare, and manage department budgets, forecasts, and risk management analyses
  • Directly manage and conduct performance evaluations for facilities staff
  • Oversee the performance and accountability of third-party contractors supporting all assigned sites
  • Lead and mentor a team committed to operational excellence in a defense-focused environment
  • Own and manage capital projects focused on infrastructure equipment replacement and lifecycle planning
  • Partner with Project Managers on capital improvement projects involving space planning and construction
  • Develop and present risk management analyses to leadership and executive stakeholders
  • Maintain expert-level oversight of core building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, Building Management Systems (BMS), and Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS)
  • Ensure adherence to ADA accessibility requirements, local building codes, and permit processes
  • Maintain compliance with fire and life safety codes across all sites
  • Lead Business Continuity Planning (BCP) efforts for facilities operations
  • Develop and execute emergency response plans across all sites
  • Apply crisis management experience and incident command familiarity to ensure site safety and resilience
