The Executive Pastry Sous Chef role is a pivotal management position integral to upholding Union Square Events’ core values and culinary excellence within its food and beverage program. The Executive Pastry Sous Chef supports the Executive Pastry Chef by assisting in the development and implementation of innovative recipes, culinary activations, and seasonal menu items. This role requires hands-on leadership in directing production and executing these new culinary creations alongside the Pastry Sous Chefs.

A critical component of this position involves training and mentoring Pastry Sous Chefs and Back of House (BOH) teams to maintain quality control and adherence to high standards of pastry production. The Executive Pastry Sous Chef collaborates closely with the Executive Pastry Chef to ensure consistency and excellence in all pastry offerings. This role also supports special projects, including tastings, large-scale production events, media requests, promotions, and professional photo shoots, demonstrating versatility and leadership across multiple initiatives.

In addition to culinary responsibilities, the Executive Pastry Sous Chef is expected to enforce safety standards, including safe food preparation and emergency preparedness, to comply with all safety regulations. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of pastry production operations, ensuring smooth execution under the guidance of the Executive Chef. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • minimum three years of pastry kitchen experience
  • experience in managing a team
  • knowledge of food safety regulations and standards
  • proficiency in recipe development and testing
  • ability to train and mentor team members
  • excellent organizational and communication skills
  • ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • ServSafe certification required
  • strong computer skills

Job Qualifications

  • A.O.S. degree in Culinary Arts or culinary certificate
  • minimum of three to five years of culinary/kitchen experience depending upon formal degree or training
  • ServSafe certified
  • strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Delphi, CaterXpert preferred
  • self-motivated with attention to detail

Job Duties

  • Lead and support the pastry team in daily production and service execution
  • assist the Executive Pastry Chef with menu development, recipe testing, and seasonal offerings
  • ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards across all pastry items
  • oversee production schedules, inventory, ordering, and waste control
  • train, mentor, and motivate team members while maintaining a positive kitchen culture
  • maintain sanitation, safety, and food handling standards in compliance with regulations
