We are currently searching for a passionate and strategic Director of Stores Marketing Strategy to lead our dedicated marketing team focused exclusively on driving store traffic and elevating the in-store customer experience. This full-time leadership role requires a visionary marketer with a bold approach to retail marketing strategy and a deep understanding of how to unite data-driven insights with hands-on store feedback. As the Director, you will set the direction and priorities for the Stores Marketing Strategy team, managing the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans that encompass both hyper-local initiatives tailored to individual store communities and broad national campaigns designed to enhance brand presence across the country. This role is not only pivotal in sustaining traffic growth but also in delivering innovative marketing activations that generate buzz, create positive earned media, and engage customers in new and meaningful ways.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing breakthrough campaigns that translate into tangible foot traffic while embedding test-and-learn methodologies within the team culture to rapidly identify and scale successful programs. Your leadership will extend to collaborating closely with cross-functional partners, including Store Operations, Merchandising, Digital, Creative, and Communications departments, ensuring seamless execution and maximized business impact. This position also involves owning marketing activation plans for Macy's marquee store-anchored events like the Macy's Flower Show and Santaland, integral to Macy's community engagement and brand storytelling.

Ideal candidates will possess over 10 years of marketing, retail strategy, or experiential marketing experience, preferably within department store or multi-unit retail environments. They must exhibit a strong ability to synthesize quantitative data and qualitative feedback to continuously optimize marketing approaches. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing business administration or related field
  • 10 plus years of relevant experience in marketing or retail strategy
  • Proven experience leading a marketing team or department
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in marketing analytics tools
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities

  • Experience with store marketing and experiential campaigns

Job Qualifications

  • 10 plus years of experience in marketing retail strategy store marketing experiential marketing or related fields department store or multi-unit retail experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of driving store or location-based traffic through innovative insight-led marketing programs
  • Expert in using data and analytics to inform strategy measure results and iterate quickly comfortable marrying dashboards with qualitative field feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to build standout earned-media-worthy marketing activations that break through the noise and elevate brand perception
  • Deep understanding of store execution field operations and what it takes to bring campaigns to life consistently across a large fleet
  • Experience leading test-and-learn initiatives including designing pilots reading results and scaling successful programs nationally
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to influence senior partners manage complex workflows and align diverse teams
  • Strong people leader with experience developing high-performing teams and fostering a culture of creative problem-solving and accountability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complexity and inspire a wide range of stakeholders

Job Duties

  • Lead the stores marketing strategy team setting the vision priorities and roadmap for driving sustained traffic growth across 400 plus Macy's stores
  • Develop data-driven hyper-local and national marketing plans by integrating performance reports customer insights competitive trends and real-time store feedback
  • Design and execute innovative breakthrough marketing activations that generate buzz drive earned media and motivate customers to visit our stores
  • Partner closely with store operations merchandising digital creative and communications to ensure alignment seamless execution and measurable business impact
  • Oversee test-and-learn pilots building scrappy experiments that validate ideas quickly and scaling winning concepts to the full fleet
  • Build activation plans for iconic tentpole events including Macy's Flower Show Santaland and other marquee store moments that drive community engagement and brand relevance
  • Champion operational excellence ensuring that marketing initiatives translate effectively to front-line execution and support colleague education and readiness
  • Monitor performance rigorously translating results into insights and optimizing programs to maximize traffic conversion and customer experience
  • Inspire and develop talent fostering a culture of creativity agility accountability and cross-functional partnership
