The role of Director of Rooms at Mandarin Oriental New York is pivotal to the hotel’s commitment to excellence. This leadership position involves comprehensive oversight of the entire Rooms Division, which encompasses front office, guest services, valet services, concierge, housekeeping, laundry, guest relations, and reservations. Reporting directly to the Hotel Manager, the Director of Rooms ensures seamless day-to-day operations and strategically plans for both immediate and long-term success. The Director of Rooms is responsible for maximizing room revenue and productivity while upholding the highest standards of guest service. Managing a team of department heads including Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, Guest Relations, Concierge, and Reservations, this role is instrumental in driving departmental performance and financial efficiency. Key responsibilities include supporting corporate and property-specific initiatives, leading the developmental growth of managers and line-level colleagues, coordinating capital expense planning, and ensuring financial targets are met with accuracy and timeliness.
This position is also designated as a Manager on Duty during emergencies and critical incidents, requiring readiness to respond to situations such as fire alarms, injuries, conflicts, and continuity plans adhering to Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s policies. The Director of Rooms will actively contribute to fostering a culture of legendary quality experiences and guest satisfaction by maintaining superior standards in both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.

Job Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years in department head position in rooms department
- Experience ideally at a luxury property
- Excellent knowledge of housekeeping and front office
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to develop managers and line level colleagues
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal
- Strong problem-solving skills

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Support company’s philosophy and culture to ensure guest satisfaction
- Ensure compliance and communication with corporate initiatives
- Prioritize guidance on property-specific goals and monitor progress
- Provide leadership and development for managers and colleagues
- Coach and counsel Rooms Division Managers as needed
- Oversee front and back of house operations to meet service standards
- Plan and meet financial and qualitative objectives for Rooms Division
- Participate in capital expense planning
- Collaborate with Director of Finance on monthly expenses and payroll
- Attend weekly executive committee meetings
- Interview, hire, and terminate Rooms Division staff
- Prepare and administer annual performance reviews
- Ensure training standards are in place for Rooms Division
- Create weekly schedules aligned with business forecast
- Act as Hotel Duty Manager during emergencies
- Assist operational departments when needed
- Act as Manager on Duty for support
- Communicate and resolve guest concerns promptly
- Monitor room inventory and guest arrivals
