The role of Dietary Supervisor at Trillium Woods offers a full-time non-exempt position reporting directly to the Dietitian within the Food & Beverage department. Scheduled primarily from 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM with an every-other-weekend rotation from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, this position is central to maintaining the community's high standards for food quality and service. The starting pay rate is $24 per hour, depending on qualifications.

As a Dietary Supervisor, the individual is responsible for overseeing the preparation of all food items according to standardized recipes and special diet orders tailored to the residents' needs. This position assists the Dietitian with the food service program and ensures courteous, efficient service is delivered consistently. Supervisory duties include planning, scheduling, and supervising dietary staff to maintain operational efficiency and an excellent dining experience.

This role requires developing a collaborative and cross-functional team by supporting staff training, setting and maintaining consistent standards, and ensuring balanced coverage across dietary operations. Duties also extend to managing inventory, coordinating food orders, and ensuring all supplies are available for daily meal production. The Dietary Supervisor also plays a hands-on role by assisting with meal service, providing staff education, and taking on Dietary Aide responsibilities during staff absences to guarantee uninterrupted service.

Candidates for this position will have a minimum of two years’ experience in food service operations within a healthcare setting, with certifications in food safety and sanitation such as ServSafe, obtained within six months of hire. Preference is given to those with experience in long-term care environments and previous supervisory roles. Effective communication skills and the ability to empathize and work collaboratively with residents, families, staff, and visitors are essential.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with the other Dietary Supervisor to develop a well-rounded, cross-functional team by supporting training, maintaining consistent standards, and ensuring balanced coverage across all dietary operations
  • assists in the planning, scheduling and supervision of dietary staff
  • determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus, placing food orders and seeing that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production
  • assists with serving meals
  • assists in assuring staff education is provided to dietary staff and culinary team in accordance with the staff education plan plus provides on the job training for dietary staff
  • assists in developing work assignments for all dietary staff assigning specific jobs and spot checking work to ensure standards are met
  • transports inventory to and from the dietary kitchens when required
  • contacts the dietitian if unplanned or special therapeutic diets are ordered
  • assures that meal tallies are accurate on a daily basis
  • communicates effectively with supervisors and other associates
  • assumes Dietary Aide duties during staff absences, including meal preparation, service, and cleanup, to maintain uninterrupted dietary services for residents
  • participates in assigned meetings and in services
