The Culinary Lead position at Sur La Table is a pivotal role that merges culinary expertise with leadership and business acumen. This is a part-time opportunity with workweeks averaging 20 to 25 hours, often including flexible schedules such as nights, weekends, and holidays. Compensation ranges from $21.50 to $22.87 per hour. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Culinary degree preferred or extensive culinary experience
  • 1-2 years kitchen management experience
  • Valid food manager certification required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions
  • Passion for customer service and community engagement
  • Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail systems

Job Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Degree in culinary arts preferred or extensive culinary experience
  • 1-2 years of kitchen management experience
  • Valid Food Manager certification
  • Excellent communication problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Passion for community engagement and customer service
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail systems preferred

Job Duties

  • Support recruitment training and ongoing development of culinary team
  • Lead coach and inspire associates to exceed performance expectations
  • Provide in-the-moment coaching and feedback
  • Communicate performance issues to store management
  • Represent Sur La Table brand by creating educational experiences
  • Maintain culinary expertise and stay current on products
  • Ensure outstanding cooking class experience and hold employees accountable
  • Work with leadership to increase store engagement through classes and events
  • Lead a customer-focused culture in kitchen and retail areas
  • Implement strategies to drive sales growth
  • Analyze key performance metrics to optimize store performance
  • Deliver exceptional classes that drive engagement and sales
  • Ensure compliance with food safety health codes and sanitation
  • Properly handle tools ingredients and kitchen equipment
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and control expenses
  • Handle alcohol in compliance with regulations
  • Ensure store safety cleanliness and maintenance
  • Adhere to wage and hour laws and policies
  • Maintain records of time worked
  • Ensure all policies and SOPs are followed and communicated
  • Communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers
  • Remain standing for extended periods and move about store
  • Differentiate flavors or scents accurately
  • Perform physical tasks such as grabbing reaching pushing pulling bending stooping kneeling crouching
  • Lift and move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Operate computer POS and related systems
  • Teach 3-4 cooking classes per week with flexible scheduling
  • Work in variable kitchen environments including hot surfaces and food allergens
