The Cornbread Combo is a unique dual role position combining the responsibilities of a prep cook and a dishwasher. This multifaceted role involves various essential duties including cleaning plates, flatware, pots, pans, and equipment, as well as preparing, cooking, and presenting a wide variety of menu items across different meal periods. Individuals in this position are expected to manage food products with care, follow standard operating procedures meticulously, and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and safety within the kitchen environment. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year experience in food service as a prep cook or related role
- food handlers certificate or similar certification required within 30 days of employment
- ability to physically lift and move heavy objects up to 50+ lbs
- excellent teamwork and communication skills
- ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- must be detail-oriented and safety conscious
- availability to work various shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Job Qualifications
- food service: 1 year as a prep cook or similar role
- proficiency in technology, writing, reading
- people skills: dealing with a team proactively, professionally, and positively
- ownership: takes initiative, personally drives and takes pride in business
- food handlers certificate within 30 days or Serv Safe equivalent
- ability to lift 50+ lbs, operate carts, and hand trucks, and stand for long periods
- able to be detail-oriented, organized, safety-minded, trustworthy, and efficient
- able to work indoors and sometimes outdoors throughout the shift. cooks spend most of their time in the kitchen, with occasional work in outdoor areas. frequent work includes hot ranges, walk-in freezers, and coolers
Job Duties
- manage all types of food and food products to prepare and present for dining customers
- follow all Cornbread Standard Operating Procedures to properly and efficiently prep/prepare all hot and cold food to the DOH and Cornbread’s standards
- perform basic cooking tasks such as stirring, straining, and parboiling food and reducing sauces, measuring seasonings, condiments, and ingredients for use in cooking
- work as a team with the management staff by performing routine cleaning and basic upkeep of the front and the back of the house
- perform general duties associated with setting up and breaking down stations throughout the kitchen and restaurant to start or close a shift as directed
- rotate, label, and date all products to minimize waste and spoilage
- inform the Chef on Duty of any sub-par product before the start of service
- maintain all kitchen equipment in clean working order at all times and escalate any issues to leadership
- practice safe and clean work habits to avoid injury to self and others
- updates knowledge and skills by participating in staff training opportunities
- responsible for set-up, operation, and cleaning of the dish machine
- scrape, rinse, and load dishes and utensils into the dish machine
- wash and sanitize all pans, utensils, and dishes
- clean, sanitize, and maintain dish machine
- unload dishes and utensils from the dish machine and organize them properly
- clean food prep stations and equipment
- empty garbage containers and move to designated areas regularly
- sweeps and mops
- removes trash from Food Services areas, maintaining a clean and professional area
- ensures that we meet or exceed DOH guidelines
- support kitchen teams in receiving and storing goods
- assist kitchen staff as needed, especially during peak times
- perform opening, closing, and side work
- perform additional cleaning duties as requested
