Job Description

The Association for Neighborhood & Housing Development (ANHD) has been a cornerstone of housing and economic justice advocacy in New York City for over 50 years. As one of NYC’s leading policy advocacy organizations, ANHD comprises a vibrant network of over 80 neighborhood-based affordable housing and community development groups. These member organizations collectively strive to ensure access to affordable housing and to foster thriving, equitable neighborhoods throughout New York City. ANHD’s efforts focus not only on policy formulation and advocacy but also on building the community power that drives sustainable change across the city’s diverse boroughs. With a deep commitment to racial equity, social justice, and values-based work, ANHD operates at the intersection of grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and strategic communications to amplify the voices of communities most affected by housing inequities and economic disparities.

The current opening at ANHD is for a Communications Manager role that is integral to the organization's external and internal communications efforts. This hybrid position, based in New York City, offers a salary range of $70,000 to $75,000 depending on experience, and is tailored for an individual who is not only proficient in crafting compelling content but is also passionate about advancing racial equity and social justice through strategic narrative-building. The Communications Manager will have the unique opportunity to work within ANHD’s Operations team, collaborating closely with diverse departments including Organizing & Advocacy, Policy, Research & Data, and Capacity Building & Technical Assistance. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Communications, this role is pivotal in executing communications strategies that are dynamic, creative, and impactful.

The Communications Manager is charged with developing, coordinating, and disseminating innovative content across multiple platforms such as email newsletters, social media, web presence, and print media. Their work supports ANHD’s advocacy campaigns, public programs, publications, and general brand visibility. Responsibilities include managing recurring newsletters targeted at various stakeholders including community development professionals, organizing groups, members, and funders. The role demands a creative mind with a keen visual eye, capable of translating complex and often technical housing and economic justice issues into accessible, engaging narratives for broader audiences. The incumbent will also engage in social media management, providing real-time coverage of events and actions while monitoring trends and opportunities for increased engagement.

Beyond content creation, the Communications Manager collaborates with internal teams and external consultants—such as graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and web developers—to ensure cohesion in messaging, voice, and brand standards. Ethical storytelling is paramount to the position, emphasizing the experiences and voices of communities most affected by systemic inequities. Continuous learning and adherence to best practices in digital communications are expected in this ever-evolving role. The position also requires handling administrative tasks like tracking communications metrics and co-managing the organizational content calendar. The role is designed for an individual ready to thrive in a mission-driven, collaborative environment that values innovation, respect, and social impact.
