The company’s team is composed of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who collaborate closely with customers to provide comprehensive support that includes operational advice, menu development, product selection, and effective operational strategies. Beyond just delivering high-quality food, Performance Foodservice aims to help independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators achieve their business dreams, making their role not only as suppliers but true business partners.
As a broadline distributor, PFG plays a critical role in America’s food distribution system by supporting the delivery of essential food products across various regions. The company values inclusivity and fosters a rewarding and respectful work environment that encourages growth and recognizes employee contributions. PFG offers competitive pay and benefits, such as day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more.
The Driver Trainee position is an entry-level role specifically designed for individuals looking to gain experience in driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. This involves operating on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver and unload various food and food-related products to PFG customers. The role requires adherence to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and promotes safety and professionalism in every aspect of the job.
In this position, the trainee will attend and successfully complete the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, which is essential for developing the skills necessary for safe and efficient deliveries. Trainees work closely with an assigned driver trainer, riding along on delivery routes to learn the practical aspects of the job. Responsibilities include performing safety inspections of the vehicle and trailer before and after trips, ensuring freight is properly loaded and secured, maintaining accurate paperwork, and delivering customer orders according to a predetermined schedule. Interaction with customers and vendors is conducted professionally to provide excellent customer service.
The role also requires the ability to handle physical tasks such as loading, unloading, and securing freight, often using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, with freight weights typically ranging from 60 to 90 pounds. Drivers must complete daily logs in compliance with DOT regulations and contribute to maintaining cleanliness and safety around the vehicle and loading areas. The position pays between $60,000 to $65,000 annually and typically follows a Monday to Friday schedule, with dispatch hours between 2 AM and 5 AM. Pay is bi-weekly.
PFG offers a supportive and safe working environment with a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect. The company is committed to equal employment opportunities for all, maintaining compliance with all relevant laws and policies related to nondiscrimination and fairness. This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to start a career in commercial driving within a reputable foodservice distribution company that prioritizes employee growth, safety, and customer satisfaction.
