Job Description

Il Ristorante at The Gables Club is a distinguished dining establishment known for delivering an exceptional culinary experience to its guests. Situated within the exclusive Gables Club, the restaurant prides itself on its dedication to quality, elegance, and refined taste. The establishment caters to a sophisticated clientele, offering exquisite menus that highlight both innovative and classic culinary techniques. With a reputation for excellence, Il Ristorante continuously strives to uphold the highest standards in cuisine, service, and ambiance. The restaurant environment encourages creativity, teamwork, and professional growth, making it a premier destination for culinary professionals seeking to advance their careers within a supportive and high-caliber setting.

The Chef de Cuisine / Sous Chef role at Il Ristorante is a pivotal position within the culinary team, reporting directly to the Executive Chef. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,000 to $75,000 annually, reflecting the level of expertise and responsibility required. Working a schedule from Wednesday through Sunday, 40 hours per week, the role focuses on the meticulous preparation of high-quality meals that align with the Executive Chef’s menu specifications and production schedules. The Sous Chef will also hold a leadership role in overseeing kitchen helpers, ensuring that food safety, hygiene, and quality standards are consistently met.

Beyond daily meal preparation, the Sous Chef acts as the deputy to the Executive Chef, managing kitchen operations during the Executive Chef's absence and ensuring that the kitchen maintains its professional standards at all times. This position demands a hands-on approach, including line cooking, supervising product receiving and storage, assisting with inventory management, and contributing to the creative presentation of buffets and banquets. Additionally, the Sous Chef plays an active role in preparing specialty baked goods such as cakes, cookies, desserts, and daily flatbreads, highlighting the diverse culinary skills required for this multifaceted position.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic, and a true team player with a positive attitude. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, alongside the physical stamina to stand and walk extensively and handle lifting materials or products weighing up to 30 pounds. Adherence to all Il Ristorante policies and procedures, especially those related to safety and security, is mandatory. Furthermore, the Sous Chef will collaborate closely with the Executive Chef to coordinate kitchen and dining room policies and procedures, enhancing the synergy between food preparation and service areas, including banquet functions and staff.

Educationally, the position preferably requires a two-year college degree in culinary arts or a closely related field, along with current food safety certification such as ServSafe or SafeStaff. While culinary and cooking experience of at least one year is preferred, the emphasis remains on the candidate’s ability to thrive in a fast-paced, upscale kitchen environment while maintaining precise quality and consistency in food production. Reliable transportation is mandatory due to the position's on-site requirements. Benefits include a comprehensive package of health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off, supporting the well-being and financial security of the successful candidate.
