The current opportunity is for a Direct Support Professional in a non-exempt, full-time or part-time hourly role, offering a starting wage of $9.50 per hour. This role is integral to the success of the residents or program participants supported by providing direct assistance and ensuring their needs are met in various aspects of daily living. The work primarily takes place in residential settings, supporting groups of four to six people or up to ten individuals in periodic program settings. The Direct Support Professional plays a critical role in improving and enriching the quality of life for persons served through delivering assistance with personal care, health maintenance, medication management, recreational activities, skill development, and community integration.
The position involves daily tasks such as helping with personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, and facilitating social, behavioral, and citizenship activities, always following individualized support plans. Maintaining detailed and accurate records of service delivery is essential, along with safeguarding the rights and privacy of those supported. The role requires adherence to safety protocols, reporting any incidents or concerns promptly, and respecting the dignity and choices of each individual.
This role also encompasses light maintenance duties to ensure safe and comfortable living environments, including housekeeping, minor repairs, and environmental safety checks. Employees may also be responsible for transporting individuals safely within the community, complying with all relevant transportation safety standards. Continued professional development is encouraged through training and participation in staff meetings. The nature of the work demands teamwork, dependable attendance, punctuality, and a positive attitude toward managing workplace responsibilities and challenges.
Candidates must meet several requirements including being at least 18 years old, possessing a high school diploma or equivalent (preferred), and having a minimum of six months experience in human services (preferred). A valid driver’s license and compliance with vehicle insurance requirements are mandatory for those providing transportation. Additionally, employees must complete all state-required training and certifications within mandated timeframes. Background checks, drug testing, and compliance with licensing regulations are also policy standards to ensure safety and quality care.
