Job Description

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is a well-regarded public university committed to providing an enriching academic environment alongside a vibrant campus life. Part of the University of Wisconsin system, UW-Parkside offers a variety of educational programs and services aimed at fostering student success, community engagement, and lifelong learning. The campus features a range of athletic facilities that support intercollegiate sports and recreational activities. UW-Parkside emphasizes a supportive atmosphere that encourages students to develop their skills, gain practical experience, and engage with the larger campus community.

The Athletics Event Staff position at UW-Parkside is a crucial role within the university's athletic department that focuses on supporting intercollegiate athletic events. This position is categorized as student hourly work, designed specifically for students currently enrolled at the university who seek to gain experience in event operations, customer service, and collegiate athletics management. The position offers a wage of $11.25 per hour and provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning in a fast-paced environment.

As an Athletics Event Staff member, your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of game day activities to ensure that athletes, staff, and fans have a safe and enjoyable experience during sporting events. Your role involves assisting with the setup and teardown of athletic venues, which includes preparing courts, fields, seating areas, signage, and game equipment, as well as restoring these facilities post-event. You will play a significant part in customer service by engaging with spectators, alumni, and members of the campus community, helping them navigate facilities, manage ticketing and concessions, and maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

This role demands a capacity for physical activity, including standing and walking for extended periods and lifting equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds. You will also operate ticketing systems and point-of-sale (POS) equipment while enforcing venue policies to ensure safety and compliance. Collaboration with campus security, athletic staff, and other event personnel is essential, as is supporting special competitions such as playoffs and tournaments. This position not only supports the logistical needs of athletic events but also serves as a valuable stepping stone for students interested in careers in sports management, event coordination, or related fields.

The work environment is dynamic and energetic, encompassing both indoor and outdoor collegiate athletic facilities. The nature of the job requires adaptability to varying weather conditions for outdoor sports and the ability to thrive in a lively game day atmosphere. Preference is given to those who qualify for work-study financial aid and individuals with prior experience in athletic facilities or event management. To apply, candidates should log into the Workday Internal Jobs Site for Students using their Ranger email and password and submit a resume for review.
