Mile Marker One - Waterfront Dining is a vibrant and beloved restaurant located on a picturesque marina in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Open year-round, Mile Marker One offers a unique dining experience featuring breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner with an emphasis on fresh seafood, including their renowned scallops, oysters, burgers, and lobster rolls. The restaurant boasts multiple seating options including indoor dining, cozy igloo dining during colder months, and in the late spring, the Bridge Deck opens to provide guests with a beautiful outdoor dining experience overlooking the marina. The ambiance is enhanced with live music on select nights, creating a lively and memorable atmosphere. In the busier summer and fall seasons, Mile Marker One is known for its fast-paced energy and exceptional service, while the winter and spring months bring a focus on curated food and wine pairing dinners, tequila nights, and other special events. As part of a larger hospitality complex, the restaurant is attached to a hotel featuring additional amenities such as an indoor heated pool and jacuzzi, offering guests multifaceted experiences beyond dining.
In this exciting setting, we are currently looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Restaurant Manager to join our team on a full-time, year-round basis. This important leadership role reports directly to the General Manager and plays a vital role in the smooth operation of the restaurant. The Assistant Restaurant Manager will assist in staffing and inventory management, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and providing top-notch customer service. The role requires mentoring and training staff to maintain Mile Marker One’s high standards for guest experiences and handling any customer concerns with professionalism and care. Collaboration with kitchen staff is key to ensure timely and accurate food preparation and delivery, while maintaining impeccable cleanliness and sanitation standards across the venue. Additional duties include overseeing to-go and delivery orders, supporting the host staff with reservations and phone duties, and participating in opening and closing responsibilities on a rotating schedule. Social media engagement is also part of the position, including capturing highlights of specials and events to promote the restaurant’s brand on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The Assistant Restaurant Manager will also serve as a brand ambassador for special events, dinners, and private functions hosted at the restaurant. Job Requirements
- 2-3 years proven experience as an assistant supervisor, supervisor, manager or assistant manager in the restaurant industry
- excellent communication and leadership skills
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- ability to work a 50-hour work week, flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- strong organizational and time management skills
- knowledge of restaurant management software and POS systems
- high school diploma or equivalent
- degree in hospitality or restaurant management preferred
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Assist the GM in staffing, inventory, and customer service
- ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- train and mentor staff to provide exceptional customer service
- handle customer complaints and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner
- collaborate with the kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate food preparation and delivery
- monitor and maintain restaurant cleanliness and sanitation standards
- oversee to go and delivery orders
- assist the restaurant and host staff in answering the phone and taking reservations
- open or close the restaurant as needed according to a rotating schedule
- make shift notes of what occurred during dining service
- collaborate with the Chef and Hospitality General Manager on social media by taking photos and videos for Facebook and Instagram of specials
- be a brand ambassador for events, upcoming dinners and more
- assist the leaders in overseeing hosts, food runners, bussers and servers
- assist the General Manager by making scheduling suggestions
