The role of the Assistant Kitchen Manager at PURE Taqueria is pivotal to the restaurant’s success. Working closely with the General Manager and Kitchen Manager, the Assistant Kitchen Manager plays a key role in overseeing the daily operations of the kitchen's Back of House (BOH) areas, including prep and dish sections, ensuring that all activities align with PURE Taqueria’s established standards, programs, and systems. This position requires not only leadership and organizational skills but also deep culinary expertise, particularly in Escoffier techniques and advanced butchering of meat and fish. The Assistant Kitchen Manager is tasked with creating, coordinating, and leading a high-performing BOH team to maintain food quality, control costs, promote employee retention, and uphold cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen. In addition to managing the kitchen team, the Assistant Kitchen Manager is also responsible for understanding and managing the daily accounting functions related to kitchen operations, including the use of Point of Sale (POS) systems and other supporting computer technologies. This analytical component is essential for maintaining profitability and operational efficiency. The position demands that the Assistant Kitchen Manager be adaptable, stepping into roles such as Expo or Back of House Manager on Duty (MOD) during scheduled shifts and fulfilling the full duties of a Kitchen Manager when necessary. The role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, professional environment where excellent knife skills, deep culinary knowledge, and effective team leadership are highly valued. The Assistant Kitchen Manager is expected to demonstrate exceptional communication skills, be proficient in either English or Spanish, and hold a current ServSafe certification. Physical stamina is also important, as the role involves standing for extended periods (10 to 12 hours per day), frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, and the ability to bend, stoop, and reach as part of daily kitchen operations. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about culinary arts and leadership within a busy restaurant setting and who are prepared to work 50 to 60 hours per week to achieve excellence in food preparation and kitchen management. Job Requirements

  • Must have a proven record of leadership, team building, effective communication and sound judgment
  • At least 2 years experience as a chef, sous chef or kitchen manager, or equivalent, with an emphasis on Escoffier techniques
  • Must have excellent communication skills in either English or Spanish
  • Must have current ServSafe certification
  • Possess excellent basic math skills and have the ability to operate a POS system, accounting software and Microsoft Office
  • Be able to work in a standing position for 10-12 hours per day
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work 50 to 60 hours per week
