Within Dallas ISD, the Food & Child Nutrition Services department plays a crucial role in supporting student health and well-being by ensuring access to nutritious and appealing meals throughout the academic year.
The Assistant Director of Production Operations is a key leadership role within Food & Child Nutrition Services, responsible for overseeing multiple operational areas such as the Central Kitchen, catering services, mobile dining solutions, and retail food operations. The position supports the Director of Cafeteria Operations by leading and aligning strategies aimed at enhancing the efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction of central production and meal service processes. This role requires managing a large team, including the supervision of over 30 staff members along with specific managerial roles such as the Central Kitchen Manager and Catering Manager.
The Assistant Director directly impacts the success of food service operations by auditing and assessing operational sites including vending machines, colleges within the district, mobile dining units, and emergency meal sites. The role involves close collaboration with other departments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as working in partnership with professional development managers to guarantee that all supervisory staff receive proper training. Operational scheduling, labor cost monitoring, and maintenance oversight of mobile dining units such as food trucks also fall under this position's responsibilities.
Beyond day-to-day management, the Assistant Director contributes to the district's long-term goals by participating in the planning and development of new projects, especially those related to construction and facilities affecting food service areas. The role entails preparing detailed reports with a high standard of accuracy and editorial quality, representing the director in meetings and events, and making data-driven recommendations to improve the department's operational effectiveness.
This full-time position is based at the Food & Child Nutrition Services facilities located at 1515 AL Lipscomb Way in Dallas, Texas. The role follows a day shift schedule and offers a competitive minimum salary of $86,224 annually. The position requires an individual who can demonstrate strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to operate under pressure in a dynamic environment with frequent changes and tight deadlines.
Candidates must be prepared to ensure all federally funded activities comply with time and effort reporting requirements, maintaining transparency and accountability within all operations. Overall, this role is vital in guaranteeing that Dallas ISD continues to provide safe, high-quality food services that support student success and health throughout the school district.
