Job Description

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana is a compassionate, mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to providing families with comfort, care, and support during their child's hospitalization. Through six Ronald McDonald Houses and four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms located near major hospitals, including the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, the organization serves over 181 families each night. The initiative supports families by keeping them close to their hospitalized children, providing access to necessary resources and a supportive environment. This heartfelt service helps save families more than $10 million annually in hotel and food expenses. Beyond the housing and family rooms, RMHC-CNI also operates the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program, which offers medical care to children in underserved communities, further extending its commitment to child health and well-being. RMHC-CNI operates as an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making a difference in the community through compassion, service, and support for children and their families. The Culinary Hearts Assistant Chef role at Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children's Hospital is a vital position within the food service operations. This part-time position involves assisting with managing daily food and beverage services, preparing meals, and ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. The Assistant Chef supports the preparation and serving of scratch-cooked meals, typically serving 80-120 guests per meal, including families, volunteers, and staff. The role is uniquely relationship-driven, requiring effective collaboration with volunteers and donors to create a welcoming, supportive atmosphere aligned with RMHC-CNI's mission. The Assistant Chef plays an important role in supervising and coordinating volunteer meal groups, ensuring recipes and food safety protocols are strictly followed according to ServSafe and local regulations. This role demands strong attention to detail for food preparation, kitchen maintenance, inventory management, and team leadership. Typical working hours are part-time, approximately 16 hours per week, primarily Sundays and Mondays from noon to 8:30 pm, with some flexibility to pick up extra shifts, including holidays. This position is essential in delivering a quality culinary experience that supports the health and comfort of families during a challenging time. The salary range for this role is $23.00 to $24.00 per hour, reflecting the specialized culinary skills and compassionate service required. Candidates passionate about food service, community support, and volunteer collaboration will find this an enriching and meaningful opportunity with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.
