This culture of diversity and collaboration allows Mattel to continuously evolve and broaden perspectives, impacting all its brands, partners, and suppliers worldwide. The company is not just about making toys; it is about creating moments of joy and development for children of all ages.
The American Girl New York City retail store houses a full-service restaurant that is seeking a dynamic Lead Restaurant (supervisor) to join its team. This role is a part-time, benefitted position with an average workweek of 37.5 hours and offers a competitive salary range of $21.00 to $24.00 per hour, depending on education, skills, and experience. This position is integral to supporting the Restaurant Manager by assisting with the daily operations of the restaurant. The Lead Restaurant plays a crucial role in managing both the front and back-of-house operations, ensuring smooth service, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to team leadership.
The ideal candidate for this role thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and possesses strong problem-solving skills to handle both customer and staff issues calmly and diplomatically. Key responsibilities include staffing, hiring, coaching and training employees, maintaining vendor relations, managing inventories, and ensuring that all food and beverage service standards, safety, and sanitation regulations are strictly followed. The Lead Restaurant also supports achieving departmental revenue and expense goals, manages food quality and special dietary needs, and oversees event delivery in partnership with store management.
The role demands excellent communication skills, operational troubleshooting abilities, and leadership by example. Familiarity with various systems such as Eatec, InfoGenesis, Guestbridge, JTech paging, and POS systems is preferred. Additionally, the ability to perform physically diverse tasks including walking, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds is necessary. Flexibility is required in scheduling, including the availability for night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Hiring for this position is based on education, experience, and skill set, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates join the team. Candidates who have prior restaurant experience in a high-volume, fast-paced setting, particularly with exposure to both front and back of house, and those with experience working with children will find themselves well-suited to this role. Certifications such as State Sanitation Certification, ServSafe, and Safe Alcohol Consumption are preferred but not mandatory. The role offers significant benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid training and time off, employee discounts, and a 401(k) plan.
Joining Mattel and the American Girl New York City retail store means being part of a team that values creativity as a superpower, where innovation is celebrated, and where you can make a positive impact on children’s play and development every day. This is an opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a vibrant retail and restaurant environment, delivering exceptional service and memorable experiences to guests while working for a brand that prioritizes inclusion and respect.
