The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA), formerly known as the Arkansas Arts Center, is a premier cultural institution located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Established in 1937, AMFA has undergone a significant transformation, reopening in April 2023 after a comprehensive renovation and expansion.
The museum's 133,000-square-foot campus is situated within MacArthur Park, Little Rock's oldest municipal park. It features a distinctive architectural design by Studio Gang, which preserves the historic 1937 Art Deco façade while introducing a modern, pleated roof. This creates a harmonious blend of old and new.
Permanent Collection
AMFA's permanent collection spans over seven centuries and encompasses approximately 14,000 works of art in various media. These include paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
The collection highlights artists from Arkansas, the South, and across the United States and Europe. It has notable strengths in contemporary craft and works on paper.
Visual and Performing Arts
The museum offers a dynamic array of visual and performing arts experiences. Its nine galleries showcase both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Featured artists include Kerry James Marshall, Derek Adams, and Bisa Butler. The Performing Arts Theater hosts a variety of performances such as children's theater, lectures, films, and concerts.
