Overview

People Serving People is the largest and most comprehensive emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Minnesota. Located in downtown Minneapolis, the organization is dedicated to supporting families facing housing instability by providing shelter, early childhood education, housing stabilization, and advocating for systemic change.

Shelter Facilities

The shelter offers 99 hotel-style emergency housing units, each equipped with a private bathroom, bed, basic furniture, and a lockable front door. This ensures a safe and secure environment for families. Residents receive three nutritious meals daily along with essential necessities such as diapers and toiletries.

Comprehensive Services

Beyond immediate shelter, People Serving People provides a range of services aimed at fostering long-term stability.

• Family Support Services: Individual support, education, and resource referrals for financial assistance, legal, medical, dental, and other needs that help guests return to self-sufficiency.
• Educational Services: Preparation for kindergarten and academic improvement for school-age youth. The licensed Early Childhood Development Program serves children aged six weeks to five years, focusing on areas affected by homelessness.
• Employment Services: Assistance overcoming educational or professional barriers to secure stable employment. Programs include skill assessment, resume and cover letter creation, job search, interview practice, and application completion.
• Parent Engagement: Enhances parents’ awareness of their child’s development and offers skills-building opportunities for healthy parent/child relationships through groups, meetings, interventions, and community referrals.

Impact Statistics

In 2021, People Serving People provided emergency shelter to 984 individuals, including 632 children. They served a total of 103,395 meals to families staying with them. Additionally, 373 guests met with advocates at least once, and 168 guests engaged in prevention services.
