The Wine Steward role at Quality Food Centers is a vital position dedicated to enhancing the customer experience by providing expert knowledge and exceptional service in the wine department. The Wine Steward plays a key role in establishing and maintaining a welcoming, safe, and clean environment that encourages customer loyalty. This position involves assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals by monitoring quality assurance standards and promoting the Customer 1st strategy to encourage excellent customer service among associates. The steward is expected to uphold the company's core values and demonstrate integrity and respect in their daily interactions.

The responsibilities include engaging customers with product knowledge relating to domestic and imported wines and beers, offering product samples, and recommending wine pairings with other foods. The Steward must stay current with industry trends, seasonal promotions, and ensure proper maintenance of storage conditions and safety protocols. This role requires effective communication skills, the ability to handle stressful situations, and adherence to company safety programs, including reporting incidents and unsafe conditions. Candidates should be at least 21 years old, have a high school education or equivalent, and demonstrate the ability to pass a wine knowledge test after employment.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Pass wine test once employed
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Promote trust and respect among associates
  • Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain logs
  • Reinforce safety programs and report unsafe conditions
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and illegal activity

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Experience working with wine and beer
  • Retail experience
  • Knowledge of imported and domestic wine varieties and flavor profiles
  • Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Second language speaking, reading, and/or writing skills preferred
