The role of Wine Steward at Metropolitan Market serves a vital function as the leader of the Beer & Wine Department within the store. This position involves comprehensive responsibility encompassing product management, merchandising, full profit and loss oversight, and personnel development. The Wine Steward is instrumental in ensuring that the department maintains exemplary standards in product quality and presentation while achieving sales and profitability targets. In this role, the Wine Steward will take charge of ordering all products for the Beer & Wine Department, carefully managing budgets relating to sales, gross profit, labor, and supplies. They will plan and execute captivating merchandising and display strategies that attract customers and drive sales. Additionally, the position requires ensuring inventory rotation to preserve product freshness and conducting quarterly physical inventories to maintain accurate stock levels and prevent loss. The Wine Steward will lead and actively participate in product promotions, using deep product knowledge to educate customers and guide sales efforts.

A pivotal part of the role is leadership and team development. The Wine Steward provides clear guidance, trains new and existing team members, and offers constructive feedback through coaching and counseling. This role requires regular coordination with the night crew and adherence to department scheduling. Moreover, the Wine Steward must demonstrate flexibility and dependability, meeting attendance requirements and supporting store operations as a whole.

Job Duties

maintains high-quality standards in product management and presentation
orders all products for the Beer & Wine Department
completes Beer & Wine Department night crew work schedule
establishes sales, gross profit, labor and supply budgets for the Beer & Wine Department
assists in maintaining pricing to achieve budgeted gross profit goals
plans and executes Beer & Wine Department merchandising and displays
ensures rotation requirements for all beer & wine products are consistently achieved
leads and readily participates in product promotions and focuses
provides outstanding customer service and readily communicates product information to increase sales and meet revenue goals
leads by example, and provides employees with clear expectations and timely feedback
trains employees and provides performance feedback, coaching and counseling
conducts quarterly physical inventories and practices inventory control
