The role of the Host/Hostess at Flanigan's is vital to maintaining the warm and inviting atmosphere for which the restaurant is known. As the first point of contact, you are the smiling face that guests see when they enter the establishment and often the last friendly interaction before they leave. This position involves greeting guests promptly and courteously, managing the flow and seating of guests efficiently, and ensuring that all visitors feel welcomed and comfortable throughout their dining experience. Working at the host station means managing wait lists proactively, communicating effectively with the kitchen and management to accommodate guest needs, and handling any inquiries or special requests with professionalism and care.

Beyond greeting and seating guests, the host maintains the cleanliness and organization of the foyer, host station, and waiting area, ensuring menus are well-stocked and restrooms are clean and welcoming. Attention to detail and the ability to multitask under busy conditions are essential for success in this role. Additionally, hosts are expected to participate in opening and closing duties, shift changes, and perform assigned sidework to support the team. Communication skills are key, as hosts must answer phone calls promptly and direct guests to the appropriate staff member when needed.

This position requires physical stamina, including the ability to frequently reach, bend, and stoop, as well as lift up to 50 pounds. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is necessary to perform effectively in this role, and successful completion of the Florida Responsible Vendor program and food safety certification program is mandatory in compliance with state statutes and company policies.

Job Duties

  • Display and maintain a cheerful and courteous temperament
  • greet guests with Flanigan's smile talk
  • engage guests in smile talk while escorting them to table in a timely manner
  • efficiently manage the wait list for seating
  • communicate guest questions or concerns to manager on duty
  • keep foyer, host station, wait area clean and free of debris, restock and clean menus
  • restock and maintain restroom cleanliness for guests
  • answer telephone within four rings and answer guests' questions or direct guests to proper staff member
  • conclude guests' visit with Flanigan's smile talk
  • perform shift changes, opening and closing duties, and assigned sidework
