The part-time Barista position at Mustard Seed Market & Cafe offers an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team passionate about quality service and natural products. This role focuses on greeting and serving customers promptly and courteously, preparing and serving an array of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, smoothies, and teas. The Barista is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in the cafe area and retail sections, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. Scheduled to work every Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm, this position provides a flexible schedule with the potential to pick up additional shifts as needed. The role demands attention to detail, from slicing fruits and vegetables for garnishes to wrapping and labeling prepared foods in accordance with sanitation guidelines. Beyond beverage preparation, the Barista actively participates in stocking retail products, creating signage to advertise store products or events, and upholding company policies and procedures. Working within a non-smoking store environment, the Barista must be comfortable handling various kinds of food preparation tools and equipment, including knives and wheatgrass machines, all while adhering to safety and efficiency standards.

Job Requirements
- High school education or equivalent
- one plus years of experience in drink/barista service
- one plus years of experience in food service desired
- interpersonal skills
- ability to present food attractively
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- ability to bend, read, walk, carry 40 lbs, reach, use telephone, hear auditory cues, write, lift 40 lbs, have sight or peripheral vision, grasp objects, operate equipment, verbally communicate
- ability to stand for extended periods

Job Duties
- Greet and serve customers promptly and courteously
- prepare and serve hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, smoothies, and teas
- stock and replenish Cafe retail area and maintain sanitation standards
- provide customers with product details such as coffee blend or preparation descriptions
- receive and process customer payments
- clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, and equipment
- clean service and seating areas
- check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, or heating equipment to ensure proper functioning
- describe menu items to customers and suggest products that might appeal to them
- stock supplies and retail products
- prepare and serve prepared foods such as sundaes and avocado mousse
- store, wrap, label, and date food items for sale in accordance with sanitation standards
- create signs to advertise store products or events
- demonstrate the use of retail equipment such as espresso and wheatgrass machines
- set up and restock product coolers
- slice fruits and vegetables for garnishes
- demonstrate proper knife handling skills and techniques
- maintain standard operating procedures in accordance with company policy, guidelines and outside licensed and certification authorities
- perform other duties as assigned
