Job Description

Beaver County Humane Society is a compassionate and dedicated nonprofit organization committed to the welfare and protection of animals within Beaver County. As a cornerstone in the community, the Society plays a vital role in providing shelter, care, and advocacy for animals in need, while promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare education. Their mission is deeply rooted in fostering a humane and caring environment where both animals and community members thrive together. They embody values of compassion, respect, and inclusivity, working tirelessly to ensure that every animal has a chance at a safe and loving home. The organization is renowned for its volunteer-driven model, bolstered by a strong commitment to community engagement and sustainability in all aspects of its operations. The Beaver County Humane Society is currently seeking a full-time Volunteer Coordinator to join their Fundraising Department. This non-exempt, full-time role reports directly to the Shelter Manager or Associate Director and plays a pivotal part in supporting the organization's mission through volunteer engagement.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the volunteer program, ensuring that volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, scheduled, supported, and retained. Serving as the primary point of contact, this individual fosters a consistent and positive volunteer experience, encouraging repeated participation and long-term commitment. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships that enhance volunteer retention and engagement. Key responsibilities include leading engaging orientations and training sessions, maintaining clear and accessible training materials and standard operating procedures, and matching volunteers with roles that align with their skills and interests. Moreover, the Volunteer Coordinator manages scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and coordinates closely with shelter staff to align volunteer support with operational needs.

The position also encompasses program administration duties, such as maintaining accurate volunteer records, tracking key metrics related to volunteer participation and engagement, and supporting continuous program improvements. Culture and communication play a significant role in this role, as the Coordinator helps foster a welcoming, inclusive, and organized volunteer environment that aligns with the Beaver County Humane Society's core values. Clear and consistent communication about updates, needs, and opportunities, paired with fostering a culture where volunteers feel integral to the team, are essential components.

This role involves an active work environment including standing, interacting with people and animals, and some exposure to challenging animal welfare situations. Weekend and early evening availability is required. The Volunteer Coordinator must embody exceptional work ethic, support organizational policies, meet deadlines, participate in meetings, and maintain regular attendance. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community's animals and people by building a strong, engaged, and sustainable volunteer team that supports the overall mission of the Beaver County Humane Society.
