Job Description
Operation Freedom Paws is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of veterans, first responders, and individuals with disabilities through service dogs. Based in San Martin, California, this impactful organization is committed to "saving lives at both ends of the leash" by pairing highly trained service dogs with those who need them most. Operation Freedom Paws has built a reputation for its compassionate, mission-driven approach that not only transforms the lives of recipients but also enriches the community by promoting volunteerism and engagement.
The role of Volunteer & Events Coordinator is essential to the success of Operation Freedom Paws’ programs and outreach efforts. This position offers a unique opportunity for someone passionate about community service, nonprofit work, and event coordination to contribute meaningfully to a cause that matters. Working directly under the Director of Development & Marketing, the Volunteer & Events Coordinator will manage a robust volunteer program and support key fundraising and community events throughout the year. This full-time role requires a flexible schedule of 32 to 40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends driven by event demands. The coordinator will work onsite at the San Martin office, providing hands-on support and leadership.
In this vital role, the Volunteer & Events Coordinator will lead volunteer recruitment, ensuring that each volunteer is aligned with the organization’s mission and properly trained to fulfill their role. The coordinator will oversee the entire volunteer lifecycle, from application and screening to onboarding and placement. Effective communication is key in this role, as the coordinator will serve as the central point of contact for all volunteer-related inquiries and maintain consistent engagement through emails, newsletters, and recognition initiatives. Careful tracking of volunteer hours and participation ensures accurate reporting and long-term volunteer relationship-building.
Additionally, the coordinator will play a significant role in planning and supporting Operation Freedom Paws’ diverse fundraising events, such as the golf tournament, wine gala, and smaller community gatherings. Responsibilities include venue research, vendor coordination, solicitation of in-kind donations, and event logistics management. The ability to coordinate event setup and breakdown, manage registrations, and provide on-site event assistance is crucial to ensure smooth execution.
This dynamic position also involves collaborating closely with staff, volunteers, and external partners to enhance both individual events and broader programs. Administrative tasks such as data entry, reporting, and general coordination will also be part of the day-to-day duties. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, or related nonprofit functions, with strong organizational, communication, and project management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and familiarity with CRM or donor database software is preferred.
Above all, the Volunteer & Events Coordinator must embody the mission of Operation Freedom Paws and exhibit genuine dedication to supporting veterans, first responders, and individuals with disabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to make a measurable impact and grow within a committed, mission-focused team environment.
