Opportunity to work with a nationally recognized arts festival

Job Description

Spoleto Festival USA is internationally recognized as America’s premier performing arts festival. For 17 days and nights each spring, the festival transforms Charleston, South Carolina, into a vibrant hub of cultural and artistic expression, filling historic theaters, churches, and outdoor spaces with outstanding performances in opera, theater, dance, and various music genres including chamber, symphonic, choral, and jazz. Founded as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, Spoleto Festival USA has become a treasured annual tradition that celebrates a diverse range of performing arts, attracting participants and audiences from across the United States and around the world. The organization takes pride in its mission to foster the growth of artists and to provide inspiring, high-quality artistic experiences to its community and beyond.

This job opportunity is for the role of Venue Coordinator, positioned at two notable venues: 14G and Festival Hall, both located in Charleston, SC. These venues are exceptional spaces that offer both indoor and outdoor environments to host a wide spectrum of events, all managed exclusively by Spoleto Festival USA. The Venue Coordinator is fundamentally the face of the organization at these locations, entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the onsite experience for every client, vendor, and guest. This includes managing the safety and security of the facility, ensuring the venue is well-maintained, and overseeing event setups and breakdowns. The role is hourly, part-time, and non-exempt, with an hourly wage of $18.00, yet it does not include eligibility for the organization’s full-time benefits package. The nature of the position is intermittent, with most shifts and events occurring between July and April, excluding the festival months of May and June. Being a Venue Coordinator requires exceptional interpersonal skills, a proactive and self-starting attitude, and the ability to work independently while handling a variety of situations that may arise during an event. This position suits individuals who thrive in dynamic, unpredictable environments, can handle conflict gracefully, and maintain a professional demeanor under pressure. The opportunity offers flexible shifts that coordinators can choose to match their availability, typically working one or two events per month. The Venue Coordinator reports to the Operations Manager and plays a crucial role in representing Spoleto Festival USA’s commitment to excellence in event management and customer service at its key performance venues.
