Job Description
Sodexo is a global leader in food services and facilities management, committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and communities worldwide. Operating across various sectors including corporate, education, healthcare, and leisure, Sodexo delivers integrated solutions that create memorable experiences for customers and employees alike. The organization prides itself on fostering an inclusive culture where every individual is valued and respected, promoting diversity, equity, and belonging as core principles. Sodexo’s commitment extends beyond business to contributing to economic, social, and environmental progress in the communities it serves.
At Lehigh University, Sodexo is hiring for the role of Utility Worker, a vital position that supports the efficient operation of kitchen and facility services. This role involves maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization within food production and service areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment. The Utility Worker plays a critical part in upholding food safety standards, cleaning equipment, utensils, floors, walls, and storage areas, as well as assisting with supply transport and facility setup tasks. This role is offered on a full-time or part-time basis, with a competitive pay rate of $17.25 per hour, aimed at candidates seeking flexible work schedules including varying shifts, with open availability preferred.
The Utility Worker’s responsibilities are diverse and contribute directly to the smooth functioning of culinary operations. Duties include washing dishes by hand or using dishwashing machines, sanitizing worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks, and ensuring floors are swept, mopped, vacuumed, and free of debris. The position requires manual tasks such as removing trash to designated areas, cleaning equipment with specific chemicals to meet sanitary standards, restocking cleaning supplies, and engaging in significant periods of walking or standing throughout shifts that may exceed eight hours. Physical ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, and pull, as well as frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds, is essential for success in this role.
Sodexo values punctuality, reliability, and a positive attitude towards team support and workplace safety. While no prior related work experience is necessary, a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required, alongside a basic understanding of sanitation procedures and food safety concepts. Sodexo provides extensive training and development opportunities to help employees grow their careers within the organization, encouraging continuous learning and advancement.
In addition to a flexible and supportive work environment, Sodexo offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees that includes paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, and vision plans, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) retirement savings, and employee discount programs. Some locations may provide additional site-specific benefits such as free meals during shifts, uniforms, safety shoes, public transportation support, or parking. Sodexo upholds equal employment opportunities and is committed to creating a workplace free from discrimination, welcoming individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities.
Working as a Utility Worker at Sodexo not only means doing a job but becoming part of a company that values your contributions and well-being. By joining the team at Lehigh University, you are contributing to a larger mission of creating a better everyday life for all, supporting sustainability and community development through your daily efforts.
