The company is known for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating supportive work environments where employees are valued and can thrive. Sodexo employs thousands worldwide and offers opportunities for career growth, continuous learning, and comprehensive benefits that support employee well-being and work-life balance.
The Utility Worker position at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, under Sodexo's management, offers both full-time and part-time employment options with hourly pay ranging from $14 to $17. Employees will work varying shifts including days, hours, and rotating weekends, which will be clarified during the interview process. Utility Workers play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall organization of kitchen and facility operations across food production and service areas. This is a physically active position that involves tasks essential to supporting food safety and operational efficiency.
As a Utility Worker, your responsibilities will include washing dishes manually or using dishwashing machines, cleaning and sanitizing worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks, as well as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and managing trash removal to designated areas. You will be expected to clean equipment using specified chemicals to uphold sanitary standards and re-stock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and other cleaning materials. The role requires significant mobility, as walking, standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally are regular parts of the job. Reliability in attendance and punctuality are critical, along with the flexibility to undertake other duties as assigned, which may vary depending on client and business needs.

Some locations offer additional benefits such as free meals during shifts, uniforms, safety shoes, public transportation support, or parking, providing further value to employees. Sodexo encourages candidates to discuss specific benefits and job details during the hiring process to better understand what each opportunity entails.
