Job Description

Torchy’s Tacos is a popular and vibrant restaurant chain rooted in Austin, Texas, that began its journey in 2006 with a dedicated executive chef and a humble food trailer. Over the years, it has expanded into a nationwide restaurant brand known for its innovative and bold approach to Tex-Mex cuisine. Currently, Torchy’s is seeking a Utility Team Member to join their team, focusing on the crucial roles of Busser and Dishwasher. This position is integral to ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly restaurant atmosphere. The Utility Team Member will be responsible for maintaining the restaurant interior and exterior’s cleanliness and supporting kitchen operations to keep the workflow smooth and efficient. This role offers a flexible schedule and pays between $12.00 and $13.00 per hour, with tips shared on top of the hourly wage.

The Utility Team Member’s duties span several important areas. Busser responsibilities include sweeping and mopping the dining room, bathrooms, and back of house areas, promptly cleaning spills to prevent accidents, and pre-bussing tables to maintain an inviting dining environment. They will also take care of cleaning windows, walkways, entrance and exit points, picking up trash around the parking lot, and restocking beverage stations and highchairs as needed. Maintaining spotless restrooms before opening hours and throughout the day is essential, as is taking out front-of-house trash and power washing designated exterior areas per management’s daily cleaning lists. Additionally, the team member will set up sanitizer buckets at all trash stations and clean table bases and chair legs regularly.

On the dishwasher side, the responsibilities involve cleaning and sanitizing all food prep and service items meticulously. Managing the three-compartment sink with proper chemical dilution and maintaining cleanliness in dishwashing areas ensure an efficient kitchen environment. The role also requires organizing pots, pans, and newly received products while ensuring the walk-in cooler stays orderly. The dishwasher will sometimes assist with prep work or line duties as requested by management, prioritize cleaning commonly used dishes to keep the kitchen flow steady, and promptly empty back-of-house trash. Unloading and storing orders in their proper locations adds to the responsibilities of keeping the kitchen running seamlessly.

Physical demands of the role require candidates to be able to stand for prolonged periods, bend, stretch, twist, and reach for items on shelves of various heights. The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds is mandatory. In addition, candidates must hold a Food Handlers Certification to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are met and maintained.

Job Duties

  • Sweep and mop dining room, bathrooms, and back of house as needed
  • Clean up spills promptly to ensure a safe environment for patrons
  • Pre-bus tables when appropriate to maintain a tidy dining area
  • Clean windows, walkways, and entrances/exits of the restaurant
  • Pick up trash in the parking lot to keep the exterior welcoming
  • Clean and stock beverage stations, highchairs, and trash cans
  • Restock all service areas as necessary
  • Clean bathrooms before opening and monitor cleanliness throughout the day
  • Assist customers as needed and follow all cleaning lists and perform extra cleaning duties as assigned by management
  • Take out all front of house trash and power wash outside areas based on the manager's daily cleaning lists
  • Set up sanitizer buckets at all trash stations
  • Ensure table bases and chair legs are cleaned regularly
  • Clean and sanitize all items used for food preparation and food service
  • Maintain the three-compartment sink with proper chemical dilution and ensure dishwashing areas are clean
  • Organize pots, pans, and product received on shift
