The role of Utilities Supervisor at Kraft Heinz involves leading and coordinating all utility-related activities to ensure maximum operational reliability and compliance within the manufacturing facility. This position focuses on the safe operation of critical utilities, including ammonia refrigeration, boiler systems, compressed air, and wastewater treatment. The supervisor is responsible for overseeing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, monitoring system performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives aligned with KHMS pillars (Work Management, Asset Strategy, Failure Elimination) and SMRP best practices.

The Utilities Supervisor plays a critical role in enforcing safety protocols such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and personal protective equipment requirements. They ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP, GMP, HACCP, and QRMP standards, supporting internal and external audits and leading corrective action efforts. Daily duties include directing maintenance personnel, managing work plans for inspections and repairs, interpreting problem reports, and monitoring the quality and safety of maintenance work. Collaboration with planners, MRO teams, and other plant function areas is essential to coordinate resources and maintain facility operations smoothly.

Additionally, this leadership role involves selecting, organizing, training, and motivating the utilities workforce, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning. The supervisor is also tasked with recommending equipment improvements, managing budgets and capital projects, and participating in Lean, Six Sigma, and KHMS initiatives to optimize energy efficiency and sustainability. Key performance indicators (KPIs) for this role include achieving 99% uptime for critical utilities, 98% preventive maintenance compliance, and significant reductions in downtime and energy consumption, reflecting the position's impact on operational efficiency and cost management.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • minimum of 5 years’ experience in utility operations or industrial maintenance
  • demonstrated knowledge of safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and PPE usage
  • ability to interpret technical and functional specifications
  • experience working within OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP, GMP, HACCP, and QRMP guidelines
  • familiarity with ammonia refrigeration and boiler system operations
  • strong leadership and supervisory capabilities
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • proficiency with CMMS software is a plus

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facility management, or related field preferred
  • extensive experience in utility operations and maintenance within manufacturing environments
  • strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration, boiler systems, compressed air, and wastewater treatment
  • familiarity with CMMS platforms, SAP preferred
  • thorough understanding of KHMS and SMRP frameworks for reliability and asset management

Job Duties

  • Supervises employees on an assigned shift to perform maintenance or service functions within established timing, quality, and cost standards
  • supervises maintenance activities to ensure that disruption to production is minimized
  • directs all related personnel actions including final selection, training, performance appraisal, discipline, safety, and grievance procedures in unionized environments
  • sets up a machinery equipment maintenance work-plan for weekly, monthly and annual inspection and makes daily assignments
  • interprets functional specifications and problem reports
  • monitors quality of maintenance work, working practices and adherence to safety procedures to ensure safety of employees working in the area
  • establishes short-term activities directed toward work continuity and balance such as shift schedules, job priorities, material availability, preventive inspections, and grievance resolutions
  • coordinates and integrates with other plant function areas to ensure support
  • selects, organizes, trains, and motivates labor force to ensure consistent quality of work
  • recommends improvements in equipment or methods
  • enforces safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and PPE requirements
  • ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP, GMP, HACCP, and QRMP standards
  • oversees compliance for ammonia refrigeration, boiler systems, and wastewater treatment
  • supports internal and external audits and leads corrective actions
  • assists with safety training, monthly safety meetings, member of safety committee, and provides technical support for all safety projects
  • directs building utilities and maintenance personnel to ensure optimal operation of steam, refrigeration, compressed air, water, wastewater systems, building fabric upkeep, dock doors, ramps, roofs, walls, floors and overall grounds maintenance
  • monitors and records utility usage and reports trends and anomalies to ESG teams
  • implements preventive and predictive maintenance programs for building and utility systems
  • assists in troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in all buildings and utility equipment
  • drives initiatives to improve reliability and reduce downtime through equipment modifications and process improvements
  • ensures that equipment and facility are maintained in a safe, operable condition and/or arranges for replacement/upgrades
  • participates in Lean, Six Sigma, and KHMS initiatives to optimize energy efficiency and sustainability
  • analyzes downtime reports and initiates action plans to increase efficiency
  • collaborates with planners and other supervisors to ensure accurate job plans and resource allocation
  • verifies spare parts availability and coordinates with MRO team for critical spares
  • assists in developing and managing departmental budgets and capital projects
  • supervises building and utilities staff, including performance management and employee development
  • provides technical training on utility systems, CMMS usage, and safety compliance
  • promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning
