Currently, Penske Truck Leasing is seeking highly motivated and qualified applicants for the unique position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) based out of Charlotte, NC at 1326 W Craighead Rd. This casual/on-call part-time role is ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers who are looking for supplemental income and flexible working hours, ranging from 0 to 25 hours per week depending on business needs. The primary responsibility of this position is to handle vehicle delivery and return vehicles to various Penske locations and customers. This includes moving box trucks up to 26 feet in length, and for those with a CDL Class A license, also involves the movement of tractors and trailers. Beyond vehicle transport, the role may offer support to the service department by delivering parts and equipment as needed.
The position emphasizes adherence to safety protocols and regulations governed by the Department of Transportation (DOT), requiring employees to maintain a driver qualification file that includes an annual motor vehicle records check, DOT physical exam, safety performance records from prior employers, and drug screening. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety, excellent customer service, organizational skills, and the ability to operate independently. Regular, predictable attendance is essential, and the job demands physical capability for tasks such as lifting heavy weights (up to 100 lbs occasionally) and frequent vehicle entry and exit.
This role requires English language proficiency due to federal regulations and mandates that the applicant must be domiciled and licensed in the United States. Drivers are expected to perform detailed vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical and safety equipment integrity before transport. Additional responsibilities include obtaining receipts or signatures upon delivery, reporting any vehicle discrepancies or incidents promptly, and participating in other assigned projects by supervisors. Penske Truck Leasing promotes an equal opportunity employment policy and offers a dynamic work environment where safety and professionalism are paramount.
