Job Description
The Indigo Road Hospitality Group (IRHG), founded in 2009 by Steve Palmer, is a distinguished hospitality company based in Washington DC, renowned for its progressive approach to the hospitality industry. The company’s philosophy centers on taking care of its team to empower them to provide exceptional care and unforgettable experiences to guests. With multiple restaurants and a growing portfolio, including the popular O-Ku Japanese restaurant brand, IRHG is committed to innovation and authenticity in the culinary world. The Indigo Road’s O-Ku restaurant brand, established in 2013, offers contemporary and stylish dining experiences that blend traditional Japanese culinary techniques with modern influences. With 9 locations by 2024, O-Ku represents a dynamic and evolving culinary journey that celebrates both the rich cultural heritage of Japan and the adventurous spirit of modern cuisine.
We are currently seeking an experienced Traveling Sushi Chef to join our talented culinary team and help us continue to push the boundaries of Japanese cuisine. As a Traveling Sushi Chef, you will have the exciting opportunity to work across multiple locations within the O-Ku brand, showcasing your expertise in sushi preparation while adapting to diverse kitchen environments. You will specialize in crafting exquisite sushi dishes such as nigiri and maki rolls with precision and passion. This role requires a deep understanding of traditional sushi-making standards, including preparing bite-size hand-pressed rolls of vinegared rice topped or stuffed with fresh seafood, vegetables, fruits, eggs, or seaweed. Your commitment to quality will ensure that all ingredients are extremely fresh and that every dish reflects the highest culinary standards.
In this full-time role based in Washington DC, you will be instrumental in supporting the region's sushi concepts by skillfully preparing a variety of sushi types while managing ingredient handling and preparation processes. Your creativity and palate will be essential in combining flavors in ways that delight guests’ tastes and elevate the dining experience. The position requires a servant-leader mentality, strong adaptability, and resilience to thrive in fast-paced kitchen environments across multiple locations. Being a traveling chef means you will embrace the dynamic rhythm of our growing restaurant group, traveling as needed to different O-Ku venues to share your culinary skills and leadership.
Joining The Indigo Road Hospitality Group means becoming part of a community where hospitality starts at the core of everything we do. We nurture our team members with ongoing development and create a supportive workplace that values innovation, collaboration, and creativity. If you are passionate about authentic Japanese cuisine and ready to take your sushi chef career to new heights in a vibrant, multi-location setting, this is the role for you. Apply today to become a vital part of a team that continually redefines the dining landscape with exceptional food, world-class service, and a commitment to genuine hospitality.
