The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) plays a critical role in CAPE's environmental remediation projects by ensuring the safety and health of workers and the surrounding community during hazardous soil excavation, handling, site clearing, underground utility installation, and treatment facility construction. The SSHO is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing project-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHP) in compliance with OSHA, USACE EM 385-1-1, and other government environmental and safety standards. This position requires close coordination with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to identify hazards and enforce controls. Key duties include conducting daily safety inspections, leading safety briefings and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) reviews, overseeing air monitoring and exposure assessments for hazardous substances, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintaining thorough safety documentation. The SSHO has the authority to halt work if unsafe conditions are identified and is responsible for investigating incidents, implementing corrective actions, and fostering a proactive safety culture that protects workers, the public, and the environment. The salary for this role can be up to $125,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications, and may require up to 100% travel.
