The Safety Specialist role at Concrete Strategies is a pivotal position dedicated to supporting project staff and the corporate safety team in implementing and enforcing comprehensive safety and health standards across all projects. This full-time, traveling position involves active participation in cultivating a zero-injury safety culture tailored to each job site’s unique challenges and hazards. The Safety Specialist will conduct regular documented jobsite safety inspections, lead orientations for new project workers, and assist subcontractors with daily safety analyses. This role demands proactive identification of safety trends to launch initiatives that effectively eliminate workplace incidents. The Specialist will champion proactive safety practices, including near miss and hazard reporting, and provide coaching and recognition to workers practicing safe methods. Rigorous incident reporting following established protocols will be fundamental to the role, reinforcing a high standard of safety accountability.
In addition to direct safety management duties, the Safety Specialist will collaborate closely with the project superintendent to develop and uphold effective fire prevention, evacuation, and fire control procedures. Investigations into incidents on site, maintaining safety records, and facilitating safety awareness through meetings and trainings are integral responsibilities. The Specialist ensures adherence to OSHA, Concrete Strategies, and other relevant safety standards, supporting not only compliance but fostering a workplace culture where safety is deeply woven into everyday operations. Job Requirements
- Higher level BCSP certification required
- CHST or GSP or ASP or CSP certification required
- ability to travel full time to various project sites
- strong commitment to safety culture
- ability to conduct thorough safety inspections and training
- proficient in reporting and documentation
- knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to intervene and correct unsafe work practices
Job Qualifications
- Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills
- ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- at least three years safety experience or combination of education and multiple years experience in building construction
- working knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
- OSHA 30-hour construction accreditation
- OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer certification is a plus
- computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office
- bilingual skills are a plus
Job Duties
- Assist in development of the project safety program
- establish and conduct jobsite orientation for new project employees
- attend all initial meetings with project staff and subcontractor representatives to define safety roles
- conduct and document pre-planning safety meetings with subcontractors
- establish and conduct regular weekly safety meetings with subcontractors and project staff
- facilitate training for site personnel ensuring OSHA and Concrete Strategies standards compliance
- maintain logs of subcontractor toolbox safety meetings
- review subcontractor safety programs for compliance
- ensure subcontractors designate trained safety representatives
- conduct regular daily and weekly jobsite inspections and complete safety checklists
- record, notify, and prepare reports of violations and unsafe practices
- stop any safety violations or unsafe acts immediately
- assist Project Superintendent with fire prevention and control procedures
- investigate all incidents and generate reports
- establish and maintain safety records
- conduct monthly safety overview meetings and attend project staff meetings
- perform other related duties as necessary
