Job Description
This position is offered by a county government agency dedicated to the development and promotion of tourism within the region. The agency plays a vital role in attracting visitors to the area, promoting local attractions, and supporting economic growth through enhanced tourism activities. As a government entity, the organization operates with a mission to effectively manage and develop tourism programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The team comprises professionals committed to marketing the destination, supporting local businesses, and generating revenue that benefits the community as a whole. The agency's focus includes organizing conventions, attracting group travel, supporting individual visitor experiences, and leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels to promote the county as a top destination.
The role available is a Tourist Development Coordinator position, responsible for overseeing and coordinating tourist development programs. This is an administrative role focused on ensuring program implementation aligns with county objectives. The coordinator supports efforts to attract new visitors and increase tourism-generated revenue by generating leads for group travel, conferences, and individual travel. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders including local businesses, government agencies, and the Tourist Development Council. Attention to compliance with state and local laws, as well as program efficiency, is essential.
In this capacity, the coordinator will manage daily operations of the tourist development program, prepare reports, and review progress toward set objectives. The role also involves content marketing responsibilities such as maintaining the local tourism website, managing social media channels, developing digital assets, and generating analytics reports to inform strategy. In the sales capacity, the coordinator implements targeted outreach efforts such as direct mail, telemarketing, and participation in travel trade shows. The job entails travel within the region, with duties requiring driving County or personal vehicles.
The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in tourism, public relations, marketing, or a closely related field alongside experience in tourist development or destination management organizations. Candidates nearing degree completion or experience requirements may be considered for trainee status. Important qualifications include proficiency in technology, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with the public and other stakeholders. This is an emergency essential role with requirements to work during disaster declarations.
The successful applicant will have a valid Florida driver’s license, a clean motor vehicle record per county policy, and must pass all required background checks. The working environment is typically moderate noise with occasional physical demands such as lifting up to 25 pounds.
