Job Description

The hiring establishment is a governmental organization focused on promoting tourism and economic development within Alachua County. This role is an administrative position responsible for coordinating the tourist development program within Alachua County. The primary objective is to attract new dollars to the county by generating leads for group travel, conferences, events, and individual travel. The employee in this position will work under the guidance of a higher-level supervisor and will manage program activities to ensure compliance with local, state, and TDC regulations. This includes organizing, implementing, and monitoring all prescribed activities to meet the county’s tourism objectives effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tourism, public relations, business administration, hotel or restaurant management, marketing, journalism, or a related field, complemented by practical experience in a tourist development environment such as a visitors and convention bureau or a destination management organization.

The position requires a valid Florida driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record in accordance with Alachua County policy, emphasizing the need for professional responsibility and adherence to state regulations. Background checks are mandatory both pre-hire and ongoing to maintain the integrity and security needed in a public service role. Job Requirements

  • bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • one year of experience in tourist development or related field
  • valid Florida driver's license
  • motor vehicle record compliant with Alachua County policy
  • ability to pass all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing
  • comply with county and state laws relating to driving and public service
  • traineeship available for applicants within six months of minimum qualifications
