Job Description

The City of Miami Beach is a vibrant and culturally rich municipality known for its stunning beaches, dynamic arts scene, and diverse community. As a premier tourist destination, it is renowned for its beautiful Art Deco Historic District, thriving nightlife, and a broad spectrum of cultural events and festivals that attract millions of visitors annually. The city government is committed to fostering an environment that promotes tourism, cultural engagement, and economic vitality, serving both residents and visitors with a variety of programs and initiatives designed to enhance the overall quality of life and tourism appeal.

The City of Miami Beach is currently seeking a Tourism and Culture Director to lead and oversee all aspects of tourism and cultural initiatives for the city. This is a responsible and advanced professional role focused on the planning, coordination, and execution of citywide special events, cultural programming, and festivals that elevate Miami Beach's brand as a premier destination. As the Tourism and Culture Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a diverse portfolio of signature events such as the Air and Sea Show, Independence Day celebrations, and Cultural Crawl, which engage both residents and visitors, driving economic activity and enhancing the city’s cultural landscape.

This role involves managing the City’s Art in Public Places program from artist call through installation and long-term presentation, as well as overseeing the City’s Cultural Grants programs, including supporting grant application evaluations and ensuring compliance. The director will work closely with various city departments, government officials, private and non-profit agencies, business and development communities, citizen groups, and advisory boards to ensure alignment of cultural arts initiatives with the City’s strategic priorities and identity.

Additionally, the Tourism and Culture Director will oversee the issuance of special event permits, guaranteeing adherence to insurance, indemnity agreements, and regulatory requirements. The position demands exceptional coordination skills to monitor all event stages—before, during, and after execution—and managing sponsorship agreements to support city-sponsored events. The role also requires the development of alliances with key business sectors such as arts, hospitality, international business, culture, entertainment, and tourism, further cementing Miami Beach’s status as a cultural and tourism hub.

This position requires a dedicated professional with a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or a related field, along with at least 10 years of experience in government, hospitality, or the cultural industry, with specific expertise in tourism, special events, and arts. Experience working with neighborhood and relevant industry groups is essential. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse populations, elected officials, and city staff, maintain punctuality, uphold strong ethical standards, and develop innovative solutions consistent with the City’s strategic plan.

The Tourism and Culture Director position is open until filled, with the first review of applications scheduled for October 13, 2026. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter, highlighting relevant experience. Veterans’ preference is awarded according to Florida State Statute and City policy. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader to make a significant impact on Miami Beach’s cultural and tourism landscape, enhancing its reputation as a world-class destination.
