The role of Pastry Cook at the Palm Springs Convention Center is a part-time position focused on preparing high-quality, fresh pastry products that meet the company’s rigorous standards. This role involves utilizing standard kitchen equipment such as deep fryers, convection ovens, mixers, immersion blenders, scales, and chef's knives to prepare both hot and cold menu items accurately and efficiently, following established recipes and portioning guidelines. The Pastry Cook plays a critical role in maintaining food quality, portion control, minimizing food waste, and ensuring all sanitation and safety standards are met consistently.
The position requires flexibility with an event-driven schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the demands of live events and gatherings. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in pastry or baking preferred
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Valid Food Handler Safety Card or ability to obtain
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods
- Commitment to food safety and sanitation
- Excellent attendance record
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Job Qualifications
- Able to operate standard kitchen equipment including deep fryer, convection oven, mixer, immersion blender, scale, and chef knife
- Ability to read, follow, and execute recipes
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members and guests
- Work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Able to lift and move heavy objects
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Possess or obtain a valid Food Handler Safety Card
- Knowledge of sanitation, food preparation, alcohol service policies, and safety standards
- Adhere to standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality
Job Duties
- Provide high-quality, fresh pastry products in a timely manner
- Prepare hot and cold foods following company recipes and portioning requirements
- Work as a team player in preparation, service, and delivery of products
- Report any maintenance required for kitchen equipment
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
