Wesleyan's Facilities Department plays a critical role in maintaining and supporting campus operations, ensuring that all events and activities run smoothly and effectively. This department is dedicated to creating an efficient, safe, and welcoming environment for all members of the university community.
Wesleyan University is currently seeking Temporary Event Support Assistants to help with the upcoming Commencement setup activities scheduled for the weekend of May 23 and May 24, 2026. This temporary, on-campus position is essential to ensuring the success of one of the university's most important and celebrated events each year. The role involves physically demanding tasks including the setup and removal of tables, chairs, tents, and other equipment necessary to prepare the campus for commencement ceremonies. Work hours are intensive, beginning early in the mornings (8 AM on May 23 and 5 AM on May 24) and may last up to twelve hours per day, subject to change based on weather conditions. Candidates must be available for both days of the weekend to fulfill the responsibilities effectively.
The position offers competitive compensation at a rate of $16.94 per hour, reflecting the importance and physical demands of the work. Wesleyan University places a strong emphasis on candidate suitability and professionalism; applicants are required to submit a cover letter and resume as part of the application process. Additionally, all external hires must successfully complete a pre-employment background check. The university is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women and historically underrepresented minority groups, reinforcing its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in hands-on, team-oriented environments and who value being part of significant university milestones. Wesleyan University supports its employees with a broad range of benefits including group insurance plans, wellness programs, paid time off, retirement plans, flexible scheduling, and tuition programs, all designed to promote a healthy work-life balance and professional growth. Detailed benefit information is available online, reflecting the university’s dedication to supporting its workforce comprehensively.
