At the Nueces Bay Power Station located in Corpus Christi, TX, the position of Power Plant Operator/Technician (OMT) offers an engaging full-time career operating a 2x1 Combined Cycle power plant. This critical role involves working 12-hour shifts alongside the operations team to oversee, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize power plant equipment and systems supporting power generation functions, especially focusing on water pretreatment and cooling water systems. The OMT acts as the first responder to plant operational events or disruptions and applies technical skills to resolve issues promptly. Emphasizing safety, environmental compliance, and maintenance excellence, the Power Plant OMT contributes significantly to the plant's overall performance and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating complex Distributed Control Systems (DCS), conducting preventive maintenance tasks, and collaborating closely with control room operators, maintenance technicians, and management to maintain equipment in optimum condition. They will administer key safety procedures including Lock-out/Tag-out, Safe Work Permits, Hot Work, and Confined Space permits to ensure adherence to Federal and State regulations and internal protocols. Continuous operator training and documentation of maintenance activities form a part of this role to support operational consistency and staff development.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous work experience as a power plant operator or maintenance technician or equivalent experience in an industrial setting such as chemical plant or refinery
  • Must pass mechanical reading and math aptitude test to be considered for an interview
  • Strong aptitude in math mechanical electrical ability and production control
  • Ability to read drawings understand procedures and instructions required for the competent support of power plant operations and maintenance
  • Ability to work in a high-performance work environment and respond to callouts or overtime with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and team skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel Outlook and other PC based applications
  • Valid class C Texas driver’s license
  • Dependable reliable and predictable attendance

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Operates performs regular preventive maintenance troubleshoots tests and makes rounds taking regular readings to maximize asset value
  • Serves as a first responder to operational events and disruptions in the power plant and resolves issues within the technician’s technical skillset
  • Documents complex issues and submits work notifications through the electronic work management system
  • Works with and assists maintenance technicians to resolve more complex plant issues
  • Uses distributed control systems to operate power plant equipment including water treatment systems turbine controls and balance of plant equipment
  • Administers the lock-out/tag-out process and manages critical work processes including safe work permitting hot work and confined space permitting
  • Executes and develops critical standard operating procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation of power plant equipment
  • Communicates with control room operator and management on any plant equipment issues
  • Supports other departments or vendors in troubleshooting equipment
  • Manages contractors performing work in area
  • Participates in operator training and continuing training
  • Manages preventive maintenance tasks and records preventive maintenance activities
  • Trains and develops other employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities
  • Practices situational leadership safety and environmental stewardship
  • Leads equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions
  • Ensures that appropriate safety procedures are followed
  • Performs other duties and tasks as directed by the senior manager plant operations and maintenance
  • Must have dependable reliable and predictable attendance
  • Must possess a valid in-state motor vehicle operator’s license at all times
