Job Description
DIG is a renowned restaurant brand that specializes in scratch-based kitchens focused on delivering delicious and wholesome food made from fresh ingredients. As a company, DIG emphasizes a passion for real, good food and excellence in restaurant operations. The establishment has built a strong reputation by fostering an environment where individuals can grow and transform into skilled culinary professionals and restaurant leaders. DIG’s culture is deeply rooted in community, education, and purpose, making it an ideal place for anyone eager to learn and work in a fast-paced, quality-driven culinary setting.
The role of Chef-In-Training at DIG is an exceptional entry-level opportunity designed for aspiring chefs who are eager to immerse themselves in the culinary arts within a team-oriented kitchen environment. This position offers hands-on experience in various kitchen stations including garde manger, grill, roast, market line, concierge, and delivery/packout. As a Chef-In-Training, you will be responsible for following specific DIG recipes for prepping, mixing, and cooking vegetables, proteins, and grains, all while ensuring the highest standards of food quality and safety. The role demands physical stamina as well as a keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
Beyond food preparation, this role also involves engaging with guests to discuss current menu offerings, seasonality, and ingredients, fostering a positive dining experience. The Chef-In-Training will actively support the team during both peak and off-peak service times by stepping into various roles as necessary to keep operations running smoothly. The team spirit and a 'roll-up-your-sleeves' mentality are crucial for success in this role.
DIG places a high value on employee growth, offering opportunities for advancement within a supportive team environment. Benefits include paid time off, holiday time off during Thanksgiving and Christmas, flexible scheduling options with part-time and full-time availability, including an optional four-day workweek with full-time hours. Employees also receive complimentary lunch daily and commuter benefits to support convenience and well-being.
Working at DIG means joining a community that prioritizes learning culinary practices, developing leadership skills, and maintaining rigorous food safety standards to hold an 'A' letter grade from the Department of Health. This role is tailored for individuals with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a passion for exceptional guest experiences. Physical requirements include the ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, with accommodations as needed.
Overall, this position is perfect for those who want to start or grow their culinary career in a restaurant committed to quality, teamwork, and ongoing professional development. DIG is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, fostering a workplace free from discrimination based on any protected status under federal, state, or local law.
