The role of the Líder de turno de restaurante (Shift Leader) at McAlister's is a vital leadership position within the restaurant operations department. Reporting directly to the General Manager and Assistant Manager, the Shift Leader plays a key role in the day-to-day success of the restaurant. This non-exempt position requires a high level of supervision, management, and hands-on involvement during assigned shifts. The Shift Leader's primary responsibility is to oversee restaurant operations in the absence of senior management, ensuring that all standards related to food quality, service excellence, cleanliness, safety, and sanitation are met consistently.

In this leadership role, the Shift Leader actively supervises team members, ensuring that every staff member performs their duties effectively and that customer experiences exceed expectations. The position requires managing both front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities, including staffing schedules designed to minimize overtime while achieving daily labor cost targets set by management. A significant part of the role involves monitoring service speed to ensure timely and positive guest experiences, handling guest feedback and complaints promptly, and maintaining the overall standard of the McAlister's brand.

Moreover, the Shift Leader contributes to the continuous training and development of new hires and existing team members, conducting line checks and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. This leadership position also involves enforcing uniform standards, proper cash handling procedures, and opening and closing the restaurant in the absence of top management. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as the Shift Leader must be prepared to take on additional tasks assigned by management.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-energy and physically demanding environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 1 year experience in food service industry
  • supervisory experience a plus but not required
  • experience working in fast-paced environment
  • retail experience

Job Duties

  • Provide supervision during assigned shifts
  • deliver positive experience and environment to team members and guests
  • manage FOH and BOH shift responsibilities including staff scheduling to minimize overtime and control labor costs
  • supervise service speed ensuring positive guest experience
  • handle guest feedback and complaints
  • oversee daily shifts to maintain standards, product quality and cleanliness
  • assist in ongoing training of team members including new hires and existing staff
  • enforce uniform policies and standards
