The Taproom Manager at Dust Bowl Co. plays a crucial role in the successful daily operations of the taproom, overseeing staff, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and maintaining a high level of guest satisfaction. This full-time position, offering a competitive salary starting from $71,000 per annum with opportunities for bonus incentives, is responsible for managing all front-of-house (FOH) aspects including customer service, staff scheduling, and operational efficiencies. The role requires a professional who can lead by example, enforce company policies, and foster a positive working environment that supports team morale and productivity.

In this pivotal role, the Taproom Manager assists the General Manager and Director of Taproom Operations with administrative projects, manages pre-shift meetings, and continually enhances beer knowledge to educate both staff and customers. Maintaining compliance with OSHA safety standards and all federal, state, and local regulations is critical, as is ensuring all FOH staff present a professional appearance and demeanor. The manager is responsible for problem resolution, customer engagement, staff training, inventory management, and collaboration with suppliers. They must be dependable, adaptable, and effective communicators capable of managing events and special functions while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient taproom environment.

Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 165 pounds, navigating various work environments including warehouses, and the ability to stand and move for long periods. The role requires flexibility with work hours, including days, evenings, and weekends, as well as potential travel up to 25% to satellite locations. Additional qualifications include possession of a valid California driver’s license, completion of necessary certification such as Food Handlers and Responsible Beverage Certificates, and participation in Dust Bowl's workplace safety and harassment prevention training.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college
  • Six months to one year related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiar with MS Windows and MS Office applications
  • Intermediate skills with Excel and Word
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and manuals effectively
  • Ability to create routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest and percentages
  • Ability to apply basic algebra concepts
  • Ability to understand and follow written, oral and diagram instructions

Job Duties

  • Assist the General Manager and Director of Taproom Operations with administrative projects
  • Continually refine beer knowledge and communicate that knowledge to staff and customers
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings
  • Maintain a calming presence yet act with a sense of urgency
  • Engage in ethical conduct and decision-making
  • Present a professional appearance and demeanor and expect the same from all FOH staff
  • Read, understand, and comply with OSHA safety and company policies and communicate these to FOH staff
  • Comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations related to health, safety, and labor
  • Stay current with legislation regarding service of alcohol and tobacco sales
  • Manage FOH staff to meet standards and objectives
  • Ensure guests receive responsive, friendly, and courteous service
  • Resolve customer complaints efficiently and professionally
  • Ensure food and products meet portioning and presentation standards
  • Achieve company objectives in sales, service, quality, facility appearance, sanitation and cleanliness
  • Monitor and control cash, receipts and paperwork according to company policies
  • Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards
  • Prepare paperwork including manager logs and staff schedules
  • Maintain clean and operational equipment and facilities
  • Collaborate with suppliers and sales representatives for ordering
  • Maintain communication with FOH staff and management through regular meetings
  • Assist with event planning, scheduling and brewery functions
  • Lead by example, follow directions, welcome feedback, adapt and treat staff and guests with respect
  • Complete end of night check-out sheets and daily documentation
  • Schedule all FOH staff
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring and termination of FOH staff
  • Receive and field phone calls
  • Maintain accurate inventory in retail area
  • Assist communication between Back of House and FOH staff
  • Write, review and conduct FOH staff evaluations
  • Conduct initial safety training for FOH staff
