Job Description

This position is for a Systems Administrator within GDIT, supporting critical IT infrastructure and operations for mission-essential government systems located at customer sites in Springfield, Virginia, and St. Louis, Missouri. This role requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance and involves onsite work at these locations. The Systems Administrator will manage the functionality and efficiency of groups of computers running on various operating systems, ensuring system integrity and security at all times. The SA will work as part of a high-performing, agile team responsible for maintaining and improving system functionality through proactive customer interaction and a deep understanding of the GEOINT exploitation system and its operational mission. Key responsibilities include providing on-the-floor technical support, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, automating software deployments, packaging software, and managing virtual desktop infrastructures. The role demands the ability to respond swiftly to application or hardware anomalies, resolve problems onsite when possible, replicate issues for internal diagnosis, and assist in documenting solutions for circulation within the team.
Additional duties involve setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, evaluating vendor products, recommending and coordinating hardware/software procurement and installation, developing policies for resource allocation, programming in administrative languages, and maintaining current knowledge of relevant technologies. The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational skills, strong writing and time management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and customer service skills are vital. Preferred technical expertise includes software package deployment tools, service management, thin client operating systems, virtual desktop infrastructure, advanced scripting in Python or PowerShell, and log analysis for troubleshooting. Candidates need to have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with 5 to 10 years of direct experience in systems administration and analysis.
