System Float Pool - Respiratory Care Practitioner PRN

The role being offered is within the Houston Methodist System Float Pool as a Senior Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) on the night shift, working PRN with 2-3 shifts per week. This position is unique in that it requires flexibility to float among multiple Houston Methodist hospital locations, adapting to varied clinical settings as the needs arise. A Senior Respiratory Care Practitioner at Houston Methodist is an advanced respiratory therapist responsible for conducting specialized procedures that go beyond the standard respiratory care scope. These advanced procedures include but are not limited to intubation, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), electromagnetic navigation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

The Senior RCP serves as a mentor and resource for respiratory care team members and students, providing guidance and teaching to enhance skill levels in challenging environments such as intensive care units and neonatal intensive care units. They actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, research programs, and departmental committees, playing an integral role in influencing respiratory care practices and outcomes. This position demands autonomy, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to perform above-average clinical skills independently under difficult and high-pressure patient care situations.

The System Float Pool Senior RCP is also involved in coordinating activities within the respiratory department when required and serves as a resource for specialty equipment and software implementation. The role contributes significantly to patient satisfaction by upholding service standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement among peers. Additionally, the Senior RCP helps maintain quality and safety standards by performing equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring reliable testing results.

Computer literacy and the capacity to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision are essential.
