Job Description
JOEY Restaurants is a renowned family-owned and operated restaurant group established in 1992, with over 50 vibrant locations across Canada and the United States. Known for delivering the ultimate dining experience, JOEY combines handcrafted, locally and globally inspired menu offerings prepared by award-winning chefs with world-class hospitality in modern, warm, and lively environments. The company prides itself on fostering a warm, inclusive, and creative work culture where training, education, and empowerment are key priorities. JOEY is committed to equal employment opportunities and offers reasonable accommodations to qualified candidates, emphasizing diversity and inclusion within their workforce.
The role of Sushi Cook at JOEY Restaurants is pivotal to maintaining the restaurant's high culinary standards and guest satisfaction. This position offers a base hourly wage ranging from $22.00 to $30.00, with eligibility for tips through the company tip pool, potentially adding an additional $5.00 to $12.00 per hour based on fluctuating distributions. Sushi Cooks play an essential role in crafting iconic sushi dishes in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment that demands precision, creativity, and a passion for culinary excellence. Responsibilities include prepping all ingredients and food products to fulfill prep lists and par levels, employing various cooking techniques such as washing, chopping, cutting, grilling, roasting, sautéing, and frying to ensure quick and accurate creation of menu items adhering to JOEY’s recipes.
In addition to food preparation, Sushi Cooks are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of the prep and cooking areas, including refrigerators, ovens, and storage spaces. They perform side work and closing duties to support their team’s success and must adhere strictly to food safety and sanitation guidelines. This role requires coordination with other kitchen stations as needed and prompt reporting of any equipment malfunctions to leadership.
Successful candidates will possess 1-3 years of culinary experience, though those with high potential but less experience are encouraged to apply. A valid local or state Food Handler permit is mandatory or must be obtained upon hire. Candidates must demonstrate a genuine passion for hospitality paired with a proven record of delivering world-class hospitality experiences. The physical demands of the job include standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending and reaching, performing repetitive manual tasks, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Beyond technical skills, the ideal Sushi Cook at JOEY embodies genuine warmth, honesty, integrity, and professionalism. They communicate effectively, embrace feedback, solve problems proactively, and foster a supportive, competitive team environment with confidence, humility, and respect.
JOEY Restaurants offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including opportunities for career development, education, and growth. Eligible employees benefit from medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, as well as a medical reimbursement plan and an Employee Assistance Program. Employees enjoy discounted meals during shifts and a 10% discount for themselves and guests at all JOEY locations. Additional benefits include paid sick leave, referral bonuses, and participation in sales competitions and rewards programs. Candidates joining JOEY will find a dynamic workplace where their culinary skills and hospitality passion can truly flourish, along with ample support and recognition to help them grow their careers.
