Job Description
JOEY Restaurants is an established and renowned restaurant group known for delivering the ultimate dining experience through handcrafted, locally and globally inspired menu offerings created by award-winning chefs. Founded in 1992, JOEY has grown to become an iconic multi-concept brand with locations across North America. Their success is driven by a commitment to world-class hospitality leadership, modern and lively dining environments, and a focus on training, educating, and empowering employees for growth and excellence. JOEY Restaurants prides itself on being family-owned and operated, fostering a warm, inclusive, and creative workplace that prioritizes quality, professionalism, and respect. As they expand into San Jose, California with their first location opening in Spring 2025, JOEY is seeking passionate and talented individuals to join their team and continue building the JOEY legacy.
The Sushi Cook position at JOEY Restaurants is an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals who are detail-oriented, fast-paced, and passionate about creating world-class sushi dishes. The role involves producing all sushi menu items, maintaining consistency and high quality, and thriving under the demands of a busy kitchen environment. Employees in this position earn an hourly base pay ranging from $22.00 to $30.00, with eligibility for the company’s tip pool where average tips range between $5.00 and $12.00 per hour. Sushi Cooks are essential to JOEY’s culinary team, responsible for prepping ingredients according to recipe standards, executing various cooking methods including washing, chopping, cutting, grilling, roasting, sautéing, and frying, and ensuring all food preparation meets stringent quality and safety guidelines.
In addition to the technical culinary skills required, Sushi Cooks must maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation, perform side work and closing duties, and coordinate effectively with other kitchen stations. Safety is a critical aspect of the role, requiring adherence to food service, kitchen equipment use, and cleaning protocols to guarantee a safe environment for both staff and customers. JOEY values employees who demonstrate integrity, honesty, and professionalism, alongside a passion for hospitality and continuous personal and team growth. Successful candidates will embody the company’s culture of warmth, genuine care, effective communication, and confident teamwork.
This role also demands physical stamina, as Sushi Cooks will need to be on their feet for extended periods and perform tasks that involve bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, and repetitive manual activity. Those who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic workplaces and have a proven track record or a high potential in culinary arts and hospitality are encouraged to apply. Certification requirements include having or the ability to obtain valid local or state Food Handler and California Responsible Beverage Service certifications.
JOEY Restaurants offers an attractive benefits package that supports career development and well-being, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a medical reimbursement plan, employee assistance programs, discounted meals, referral bonuses, paid sick leave, and various rewards programs that recognize sales and team achievements. Joining JOEY means becoming part of a growing brand that emphasizes respect, creativity, and a shared passion for excellence in the culinary arts and hospitality sectors.
